LaHavre train to Paris

Hi all, One port we visting on our cruise is LaHavre. We are planning on taking the train to Paris. My question is, is it better to buy train tickets prior to the cruise or get them at the train station. It appears that there will be another boat in port at the same time and also wondering how bad the crowds get at the station? There is some confusion on the actual docking time, which makes me kinda nervous about pre-purchasing the tickets. Anyone out there who has done this and can offer some advise.

On this type of train (regional train), you can buy your ticket in advance and use it on any train that runs on the same route (within two months of the date on the ticket). So you can safely buy your tickets in advance for the earliest time you can think of and use it later in the day if necessary. The only thing you might lose are the assigned seats (if you buy them) but you will still be allowed to board a train with your ticket (and hope to find a seat that has not been booked).

The only trains for which tickets are not freely transferable are the high speed trains (TGV) which do not run on the Le Havre-Paris line.

We took the train from LeHavre to Paris last year. We purchased our tickets ahead of time and had no problems. It is a small train station and it was one of the early stops so we had no problem getting a seat and we were leaving the ship with our luggage to stay in Paris for four nights. I suggest checking with trip advisor about purchasing train tickets. There is a lot of wonderful information for Americans.
