Rare rjm11 Posted December 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2012 I posted this question on the Mastercard thread, but it doesn't get as much viewing, so I thought I'd stick it here too.... I have OBC ($300) from NCL for booking a suite more than 9 months out... can I add to that by cashing in credit card points? It won't cancel out the $300, will it? Also, I know the original $300 can't be used for DSC- can the credit card OBC? There seems to be confusion on that- has anyone tried recently? jame_g Posted December 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2012 Yes, you can add OBC from the mastercard, or use it to pay down your invoice balance. This will not impact any booking promotions.
Rare Birdnutty Posted December 31, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2012 As far as I know, the MC OBC is separate from the NCL offered suite bonus, and I also believe it is applicable against DSC. But don't quote me - I haven't tried lately. However, you may want to look at it a different way. We decided it was much more advantageous for us to take the Credit card points in cash, rather than OBC. Then we charge our entire on-board account to the NCL CC, thereby getting double points. Then if you need to, you can use the cash to pay your CC bill. In case that's confusing, here's an example. Scenario 1: You have 15,000 points racked up. You take $150 of OBC. You spend (randomly chosen) $500 onboard. The remaining $350 gets charged to your CC account and you are awarded 700 points. (350 regular points, plus 350 NCL bonus points) Scenario 2: With that same 15,000 points, you take $150 cash. Same $500 onboard spending. You pay all of that with your CC. Now you get 1000 NCL points. You put the $150 toward the credit card. The end cost is the same, but you get 300 more points. And if you are a gambler at all, you can't beat the $100 slot play offer for 5000 points.
Rare rjm11 Posted December 31, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted December 31, 2012 thank you, that makes perfect sense. How does the $100 slot play work? Do you get a card or receipt that you stick into the machines like the paper ones you get when you cash out?
Rare Birdnutty Posted December 31, 2012 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2012 They technically build it into your account, but I always bring paper confirmation of the confirmation email. You go to the casino window, and they load the slot play money onto your Casino at sea card. You decide how much money to put into the machine at a time. Be warned that once you put an amount into the machine, it must be played out. You can't withdraw any cash except what you won on a play. So I only usually put in $15 or so at a time. Not that I've ever had any trouble playing it out.... There's also a site where you can buy $50 worth of slot play for $25 on most of NCL ships. https://slotplaycoupons.com/destination/Norwegian+Cruise+Line
