Marco Polo Northern Lights Feb 13

Hi , We are going on a 14 day Northern Lights tour on the Marco Polo next month. We love the ship and previously visited the Baltic on her. However as this is a particularly expensive voyage we are looking at ways of keeping touring expenses down. Not quite sure why you can do an Australian and New Zealand cruise for less especially when there are no balconies involved. It is only Norway for goodness sake albeit The Arctic Circle but my sister has always wanted to go in search of The Aurora Borealis so we have to try. I told her it would be cheaper to try Aberdeen ! Which ports can be done independently and which will we have to do with the ship to see unmissable sights? We really will be on a tight budget and can't do everything we would like so will have to choose wisely. We have been to Amsterdam , Bergen and Stavangar before but ports further north are new to us.Any advice will be gratefully received. Also we know it will be freezing cold so any tips on the most suitable clothing etc would be welcome.
