I hope CC posters can advice us about penthouse cabins. I won a penthouse cruise. I am so excited about it as we have never been able to afford this category. We would like to sail at Xmas 2013 from the east coast. We live in RI. I have searched the eat coast ships for a cabin that comfortably sleeps 4 but I can't locate one. Any help is greatly appreciated. We are searching for a 7 day cruise. Thank you in advance for your help:)

Have you received the details of exactly what you have won? My DH won a cruise from NCL on FB but we had to pick from a list of cruise dates that did not include any holidays. He won a 7 day Caribbean cruise and could not make any substitutions.....couldn't pay extra for a longer cruise from NYC...had to be a 7 day Caribbean - not Bahamas. Make sure you know the details before you do too much looking. We ended up adding a second 7 day Caribbean cruise to the one we already had booked last month because it happened to be one of the weeks and ships we could choose from.

What she said is correct. Also 4 adults or 2adults and 2 children (if chilren are they small or teenagers?) The penthouse is very nice size for 2 adults. Theres a fold out couch in the one Ive had and maybe 2 small children can sleep there but I dont think 2 adults or 2 teen children. JMHO

I received the offer via mail from the casinos at sea department. There are no blackout dates. It is good for 2 people, but of course we need to pay taxes and port fees. We would need to pay for our daughters.

Does anyone have a great idea for my original post? Thank you all for responding;)

How old are your daughters? Are they young enough to share the pullout couch?

That is a possibility. We can also do a cruise for 3 instead of. 4. I have spent two days on ncl website and can't find a penthouse that is not forward, meaning right under the bridge. Cruising with the wind blowing at us it not appealing.

You do not want to be under the Bridge anyway. You have to have your curtains closed at night and not turn on your deck light. The guys on the Bridge need bitch black to operate.

There are aft-facing penthouses on many, if not all NCL ships. Is there a specific category you've been given? What am I missing here?

From the research I have done on the "least expensive" Suite with suite benefits on the Jewel Class ships, if you want to sleep 4, which I was looking for, you will only find the Forward Penthouse SE category. The Aft Penthouses SF only sleep 3. Also in my research, the 4 to a cabin appear to be 10000 and 10500, which supposedly have a bumpout which makes the cabin a little larger. The forward balcony is still large and I've read that the wind is not terrible.

We are doing 4 in Suite Cabin 10000 on the Jewel in Alaska. There are a number of pics and videos. Someone just recently posted pics of Jewel 10000 here on CC. other videos I've seen are on youtube. You may need to search for the various Jewel Class Ships. Jewel, Pearl, Gem and Jade, but I'm pretty sure the cabins are very similiar.

We are staying in a aft penthouse in June and my son will be 21 and daughter 17, so one gets the couch and we are taking a pool lounger and one will be sleeping on it on the floor. Do some homework and get your families input what they would like to do.

Depending on the age of your other travelers, it might make sense to book them in a nearby cabin. Or see if you can pay the difference to upgrade to a bigger room.

Are you thinking breakaway or the gem? I guess I am assuming you mean NYC by east coast, but I could (as I usually am) be wrong;)

I see that you will be on the Sky, where the aft penthouses are much larger than those on the Jewel class ships.

BTW you could not even book 4 people in an SF or most of the SE catagory suites on those ships. Not only that but there would not be any room for your pool lounger - except on the balcony :D.

Category se or sf

Now that helps! Since you are looking to travel for 7 days (which I am guessing is the time-frame offered to you), over Christmas, need to stay in an SE or SF category stateroom, and wish to depart from the east coast, then your options are:

Dawn from Tampa or Pearl from Miami. If you wish to have four in the room, your only choice is the SE (forward facing penthouse), as the SF (Aft-facing penthouse) only fits 3.

If you wish to leave out of NY, your only choice is the Gem on a 9-day sailing, as the Breakaway does not have category SE or SF staterooms.

I hope that helps. ;)

Your other options would be to speak to a representative at CAS and pay to upgrade to either the 9-Day sailing on the Gem, or to upgrade to a 2-Bedroom suite, or to one of the suite categories available on Breakaway which would fit 4.

OP here,

Thank you all for the responses, but I think I need to clarify my original post.

I am looking for a penthouse, sc or sf that will sleep three. When I look online those 2 categories say they sleep three but the cruise booklet says they sleep only 2. Online when I try to access the aft cabins they are not available, no matter how far in the future I search. All I am shown are the bow cabins, which I do not want because in windy or rainy weather you can't sit out there. Man, a free cruise is a heck of a lot of work. But worth it:o:D:D. Tanks for your responses
