carry on own luggage

Sailing on Silhouette tomorrow, and have no plans to get on early. We are going to relax at the hotel and get on sometime after 1:00pm. Since staterooms will already be open, we'd love to carry our own bags on and not have to wait for them to be delivered.

Anyone done this? Is it allowed? or do you have to give larger bags to the porters? It will just be two of us, each with a shoulder bag (our regular carry-on) and one roller bag each.

If they're large luggages, then no, you won't be allowed to carry it on as they won't fit through the scanners. Large pieces must be given to the porters where they take them to the large scanners inside the ship. If you only have carry on sizes, then you can carry as much as you can handle on your own.

We always carry on our own luggage. It consists of one 22” suitcase and 1 shoulder bag per person. It is lovely to be able to unpack as soon as we reach our room. We have never had any trouble with embarkation. Of course, we do travel a bit lighter than most people. However, unless you have a ton of bags, it is worth trying!

We always carry on our own bags no matter what time we arrive. We each have a rolling bag and one carry on and it is no big deal other than the elevators being crowded. We love being in control and not worrying about when/if the baggage will arrive. Many years ago we had a very bad experience (not Celebrity) where our luggage sat on the pier and my husband literally had to get off and get it himself. When we got to the cabin, we realized it had been gone through and several things were missing. Since then, we like to be in control. We also like disembarking whenever we please.
