tigermaroon2 Posted June 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2005 What's the best way to do this? We'd love to snorkel for a couple of hours at a good area...but would also like to swim with the Stingrays too. Are there any local tours that combine both for more than just a couple of hours? Prices?
mathgal Posted June 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2005 One suggestion would be to take a Stingray Tour in the morning. When you get back to the area where the tenders dock, just walk a short ways to either Abanks Diving Center or Eden Rock and you can snorkel right from the shore. If you have your own equipment, then the price is FREE! If not, you can rent from either place for around $8 to $10. Both diving shops are just a couple of minutes away so you won't have to worry about missing the last tender back to the ship.
musicwife Posted June 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2005 We were there in early March and took Soto's Stingray & Snorkel (a family operation) and spent only about 30-45 mins snorkeling and lots of time at the sandbar with the stingrays. Maybe it was short because it was still overcast and you couldn't see the fish very well, but I think it was also to get us to the sandbar before the cruise barges came in. We had lots of special time with the (only about 30-40 people on our boat) stingrays, as they were still hungry and came to us to be fed before the big boats came. It was beautiful! The water was so clear and out just a little way was an incredible turquoise blue. Have fun!
genoa73 Posted June 15, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2005 We did Captain Marvin's just last month and went to three different places: coral gardens, barrier reef, and stingray city. We spent about 30 to 40 minutes at each stop. We saw tons of fish, a nurse shark, an eel, and (of course) lots of stingrays. It was even less expensive than the ship's stingray city excursion. Totally worth it! In fact it was one of the highlights of the trip. This was their three hour tour, they also have 1/2 day tours as well. You might want to check them out- www.captainmarvins.com.
