KPfromCT Posted January 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2013 From John Heald, on FB: Due to adverse weather conditions encountered during the transit, the Carnival Fascination will now be delayed further and it is anticipated she will arrive alongside in Jacksonville around 6 PM today. If this changes I will let you all know. Sincere apologies to those boarding today and please make sure you sign up for the text alert by clicking on the Manage My Cruise section on your booking. kingoftheicedragons Posted January 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2013 :( Feel bad for the people who are supposed to sail on her today, but at least they still get to sail. I'm looking forward to hear what people think of the new upgrades from those who are sailing this time, since we'll be getting on her third sailing. Wynton67 Posted January 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2013 It's disappointing that not enough time was allotted for dry dock. I completely understand about the weather. What drives me crazy are all of the people who say "you have no right to be upset, at least you get to cruise". That's like sitting down and paying for a 5 course dinner, skipping the appetizer and saying oh at least I got to eat my entree. I paid for a certain number of hours on a ship. I'd either like to receive the hours or pay for the time that ill be on that ship. You wouldn't pay for the appetizer that they didn't bring. /rantoff

Then be upset, and get over it. There isn't a dang thing you or anyone can do to change the situation, so why dwell on it. Just be disappointed you lost a few hours and move on. BTW, the good thing is they won't be debarking guests, so I guess they can start a lot sooner than if they had. AND, yes, if I was expecting my "cruise" to start at 12, I'd be EXTREMELY PO'd. But learned my lesson NEVER to book a cruise after dry dock.
Angela61280 Posted January 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Not the same thing at all Weather I understand, but late from dry dock... When this is a common occurrence, hardly. But for the ship being late due to being held over at dry dock, it may have missed the weather... But it totally would've been a more reasonable delay. Wynton67 Posted January 19, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Not the same thing at all. Thank you for your opinion, King of the Quote button. I wasn't referring to anyone in particular but thank you for jumping to conclusions. And it IS the same thing. If I pay for something, I expect to get what I paid for or have the amount adjusted to pay for what I received. But thanks for your opinion :D

My favorite part is that we can't even cancel and rebook for a later sailing without a penalty. But ccl can switch up stuff, run behind on a routine dry dock... And the customers have to eat it. Exactly... Never EVER after dry dock.

Angela61280 Posted January 19, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2013 A cruise fare for a 5 day cruise... Which unfortunately it's not anymore... You guys seem to be okay with this being normal. If more people weren't okay with basically paying for things they didn't receive, the cruise lines wouldn't pull this on people, without just compensation. Remind me to get you as a customer, you'll pay full price, tip me, and not complain when I don't deliver as promised! It's a business relationship just built in heaven!!! cruise_pirate Posted January 19, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Well hopefully, they can make up a little time and you will not loose any port time. I know sailing after drydock is tricky. and can be for several cruises after, and we sail on the 28th. Good luck and leave the ship in nice shape for us!:) Lonnie
MrPete Posted January 19, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Just announced: Due to the delayed arrival time we currently anticipate that the Carnival Fascination will depart at midnight tonight from Jacksonville. This will not impact the itinerary which of course is good news indeed.
relic937 Posted January 19, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Wow this is going to set the "give me some compensation" people on fire. The people I feel the most sorry for are the crew who have no control over this either but will certainly be berated for it.

Wynton67 Posted January 19, 2013 #16 Share Posted January 19, 2013 We just also received word that in addition to the OBC for lunch and dinner offered, a 1 day refund would be issued and gratuities for today would be taken care of by Carnival. This is more than fair, thank you Carnival for doing the right thing. Oh and "Princess", go post in a thread that actually concerns you :)
kingoftheicedragons Posted January 19, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 19, 2013 I also feel bad for the people who feel like they have to complain about everything, and for those who feel they are entitled to compensation for everything. There is no "hourly" rate on a cruise ship. Yes, it sucks that they can't get on the ship and enjoy lunch, and now it looks like supper is also affected--not quite sure how that would work with such a late embarkation. There is nothing wrong with being upset that they can't get on when they had planned, but as someone else said, be upset about it for a little bit, and then move on. Would you prefer the first cruise be cut short by a full day, or even canceled? Would you prefer to still get to go on your cruise, or be told that sorry, your whole vacation is ruined? If you can't stand people being optimistic, and happy, and looking at the bright side of things in life, then that says volumes about what sort of person you are. Angela61280 Posted January 19, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Yup, that's extremely fair! Bon voyagee! VERY Fair. And FWIW, I'm an optimist.. almost to the point of viewing the world through rose colored sunglasses ;) but I expect to get what I pay for, this whole.. you're a complainer, you're a sad sad person, and at least you're on vacation, is crap imho. Yes, I'm on vacation - you could be on vacation too if you shelled out some cash, and i'm sure that you'd want to get what you paid for. It's not my problem that you're at home freezing in the middle of the winter, that's what YOU paid for. I didn't. Liken it to complaining about the presidential administration.. if you didn't vote, you don't have standing to say anything. We have a ticket, do you?! Yes, some cruise is better than no cruise... and Carnival made good on what we paid for.. I'm happy with what they offered, and CCL is doing what they can. Will I take it out on the staff of the ship - uh no... it's not like the staff onboard made the ship late because dry dock ran behind schedule - that's a corporate thing. See you all on the boat... well those of us with tickets :D... at midnight!
73mg Posted January 19, 2013 #20 Share Posted January 19, 2013 We are currently at the Jacksonville Plaza Hotel waiting to board the Fascination. We booked a room/cruise parking package which includes a shuttle to the cruise terminal. We are amazed at how accommodating the Jacksonville Plaza Hotel has been. They are aware of the Fascination's delay and are allowing us to remain in our rooms and they still plan to shuttle us to the terminal. So we are relaxing, resting and will be ready to party once we board our ship! We have received emails from Carnival and feel that they are being fair. roseaxel Posted January 19, 2013 #24 Share Posted January 19, 2013 I think Carnival is being quite fair to the passengers in this situation, as they were to us a couple of years ago. We were on a 4 day cruise out of Mobile, and on our our arrival day, the fog was so thick that morning that the ship had to stay outside of Mobile for another day, just sitting in the water. The port of Mobile was closed and would not allow the ship to come in. We got an extra day for free, they showed free movies in the showroom, and they had all kinds of extra activities onboard for us to do. They even opened the casino back up, and I won $1500. I didn't care if the ship ever got to port at that point. Plus they even let everyone make phone calls for free. Carnival refunded one day to the group that was supposed to board when we got in, as well as giving them food vouchers. Things happen that are out of their control, and they do their best to try and make up for it.

(free internet too:)) That's awesome! Are you going to see any of the sights while you're in jax? IMO it's too cold to go to jax landing, and I'm not a fan of regency like carnival suggested. The zoo (although tiny, isn't far away.. Haven't been there in awhile though.). And my favorite mall is the town center.. They've got one of almost everything there..
