eatsallinsects Posted January 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Is it RMS, MS or HMS? Don't know why my title for subject does not accept all CAPS?
Shawn's World Posted January 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2013 MS = Motor Ship HMS = Her Majesty's Ship (in this case, the HMS Queen Elizabeth is an aircraft carrier in the British Royal Navy)

eatsallinsects Posted January 21, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted January 21, 2013 MS Queen Elizabeth, call sign: ZCEF2. MS for "motor ship." ************************* THANK YOU so much for the specifics. Now, I have seen her designated MS on one web site and M/S on another. Any thought on why the difference? Brian Raine Posted May 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2013 RMS was the designation for ROYAL MAIL SHIPS which carried the mail to the predominately Empire countries etc before the use of air transportation .Some mail is still carried by freighters but not designated vessels. Although I think Queen Mary 2 still has the honourary designation of RMS, even although she does carry regular mail deliveries. No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong :) Eddie
Brian Raine Posted May 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2013 Seek and yea shall find. The RMS designation was given to companies contracted to carry the ROYAL MAIL, one being Cunard and White Star. QM2 was given the honoury designation in recognition of Cunards historical association with RM and she still carries mail. BA have a contract to carry mail and some of their aircraft bear the Royal Mail seal. Apparently at the moment their only 4 vessels so designated, one serves St Helena in the Atlantic, one the Scilly Isles, one in Ontario Canada and QM2
