RJHNorthyorks Posted January 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2013 We will be calling at Zeebrugge in July on celebrity eclipse. Having visited Bruges a number of times before we would like to visit somewhere else and probably Ghent. I wonder if the ship will do a transfer "Ghent on your own " type trip or how easy it is to do this by public transport which we would prefer. Any advice appreciated. Rare John Bull Posted January 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2013 Free port shuttle to the rail station at Blankenberge. Trains (currently hourly leaving at 11mins past the hour) to Ghent take about an hour. If you've been to Bruges by train - it's the same train. Can't tell you more, never stayed on the train beyond Bruges. JB :)
sayaguru Posted February 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 17, 2013 Easy to get the train from Brugges to Ghent but not suire how much time you'll have as it takes time to get to Brugge on the train then on to Ghent. Might be a risk getting back to the ship on time. Ghent is lovely though. I liked it more than Brugge. We weren't on a cruise. Just stayed in both towns. RJHNorthyorks Posted February 17, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted February 17, 2013 Thanks. I've looked up train times and it doesn't seem like we'd get long there. We generally do our own thing but I'm thinking a cruise ship transfer wil be safer if they offer this. We'll also be there on a Sunday and it possible there might be a reduced service on the train. Eboracum_d Posted April 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 14, 2013 We certainly did it comfortably by the route suggested -- shuttle bus to the station and then by rail. We had two or three hours in Ghent following a town trail map and back in plenty of time to meet the ships deadline.
