Credit card use in South Pacific

Our cruise is on March 14th, 2013 Sydney to Papeete. In the past we have used credit cards to eliminate need for cash. Does anyone have experience in this area of our cruise. Seems some tour operators etc do not use credit cards.

The tour operators we used in Bora Bora (2) and in Moorea took USD. I think you could pay cash in local currency too.

The Tahiti museum took only local currency. No credit cards and no USD. We exchanged a small amount of US at our day hotel.

Hotels take credit cards but not for currency exchange! Souvenir sellers near the tender landing take USD.

Do you know if the supermarket takes credit cards or does it have to be local currency also restaurants...I realize the better restaurants would probably take credit cards but what about take aways.

Sorry, we didn't shop at all. We were just there for 1 day. We did eat at the Meridian resort but that of course takes credit cards.
