maryann ns Posted February 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2013 That's terrible about the fire. I had not heard about that. There are other tour companies and many, many previous posts. Go back to the Ports of Call page for Canada, look to the right of the blue bar near the top of the page and do a search using terms such as Halifax and places you want to go. Gingee Posted February 1, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted February 1, 2013 I am not sure what we want to do. Probably see things away from walking distance or so from cruise terminal in Halifax. Peggys Island? They said that their tours are running in Halifax but not the other location.
maryann ns Posted February 2, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2013 If you have already been to Halifax and/or do not want to see what is there, then renting a car and driving to Peggy's Cove and possibly on to Lunenburg is a great option. There are many previous posts about renting cars. Some companies are in the Via Rail Station/Westin Hotel a couple minutes from the dock. Enterprise will pick you up at the pier. You should get to Peggy's Cove as soon as possible to get ahead of the tour busses. Then you can go on to Lunenburg or go back to Halifax to spend some time there. If you want great lobster then go to Ryan's which is on the road to or from Peggy's. http://www.peggyscoveregion.com/peggys-cove-area/ http://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g154976-i327-k4804493-Trip_Report_Cruise_docked_in_Halifax-Halifax_Halifax_Regional_Municipality_Nova_Scotia.html#36133733 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1769976&page=6 https://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=Terminal+Road,+Halifax,+NS&daddr=44.6724183,-63.7906838+to:Peggys+Cove,+NS+to:Mahone+Bay,+NS+to:Lunenburg,+NS+to:44.565867,-64.286666+to:44.5463179,-64.2370857+to:44.4955652,-64.0815549+to:Terminal+Rd,+Halifax,+NS&hl=en&sll=44.543505,-63.992615&sspn=0.496232,1.352692&geocode=FQ8SqQIdVAY2_CnddI0CRiJaSzExOT4ohdOaMQ%3BFaKlqQIdpaEy_CnfVD-dOItZSzETHt-KdQ0HHg%3BFcnnpgIdIrIw_CnFyxzm9_hZSzGzNrkPHaGopw%3BFcI9pgIdPJsp_Cn7Y_qvyl9XSzGf5BZFz_TFyg%3BFa0jpQIdjZIq_ClD0a4gwVtXSzHrTTCtT3o5Vg%3BFWsFqAIdNhAr_ClbYk7iZudZSzGuorsz7wYSaQ%3BFQ25pwId49Er_CndBw6DxOZZSzGQcTlLKcjO0w%3BFc3ypgIdbjEu_Cnz00w-YPtZSzG98UXlHMZIRA%3BFQ8SqQIdVAY2_CnddI0CRiJaSzExOT4ohdOaMQ&oq=term&mra=dpe&mrsp=5&sz=10&via=1,5,6,7&t=m&z=10 Here are some notes I have gleaned from previous posts about taxis or private tours: http://visitors.halifax.ca/tours.shtml?getSearch=38 https://secure.shoretrips.com/default.asp http://www.halifaxtaxitours.com/page2.html see http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1274450 https://secure.shoretrips.com/common/search3.asp?rcode=NEW&lcode=HAL# http://www.galaxytaxilimo.com http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1669831 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1735436 www.halifaxcruiseshiptaxitours.com http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1472691 http://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g154976-i327-k5873323-Halifax_Tour_Guide_goes_above_and_beyond_your_typical_tour-Halifax_Halifax_Regional_Municipality_Nova_Scotia.html#45046510 http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g154976-i327-k3084504-l22416942-Halifax_Private_Tours-Halifax_Halifax_Regional_Municipality_Nova_Scotia.html#22416942 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1209935 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1727212
Gingee Posted February 3, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Thanks but I know my husband does not want to drive himself in a strange area. So what do people really do in Peggy's Cove that is so popular?
maryann ns Posted February 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Most of the above posts are for taxis or tour operators. Peggy's Cove is a very scenic place. It is a tiny fishing cove with huge rocks, sometimes lots of crashing waves, and little shops.
Lulu51 Posted February 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Thanks but I know my husband does not want to drive himself in a strange area. So what do people really do in Peggy's Cove that is so popular? If you are not interested in driving then I would suggest private tour you could go to Peggy's Cove then down the coast road to Lunenburg.( UNESCO World Heritage Site) You may find this useful for ideas, http://www.novascotia.com/en/home/ourregions/ourregions/southshore/default.aspx also peruse other areas for ideas, an alternative would be Grand Pre/ Wolfville and maybe Winery? Lulu51 Posted February 3, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Forgot to add this link for reviews of private tours, these are mostly only 6 seater vans which to me is much nicer than the larger buses. your choice of locations, time spent etc all flexible. http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g154976-d2706014-Reviews-Tour_of_Halfiax_and_Peggy_s_Cove_Private_Tours-Halifax_Halifax_Regional_Municipal.html Hope that helps a bit.
