Marriedl8e Posted February 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2013 We are sailing on the Inspiration in March and we booked an oceanview on the Empress Deck (E132). The Atlantic deck is above our floor and our room is right under the kitchen galley. I know the kitchen is probably going 24/7 on the cruise ship. Are we going to be hearing noise over our heads constantly? Has anybody been in this room on the Inspiration (or any of the rooms located directly below the galley)? If so, can you tell me how it was. Thank you for your help.
Cruisin'Doc Posted February 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2013 I have not, but, as a precaution, there's a couple of things you CAN do... Take a small sound machine to block noise. Download a sound machine app to your phone, if you'd prefer. Also, you can buy foam ear plugs at any general or department store and they are EXCELLENT sound blockers. My guess is there will likely be noise. I have been below Lido before...and it was...noisy...as they moved things during the night.
CJWells Posted February 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2013 The issue I had with staying close to the galley was not noise; it smellings cookies, pasties and breads all night! Wake up starving!!
Marriedl8e Posted February 9, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Thanks for your answers. We went ahead and changed rooms...which ended up costing us. But in the end, I think we will be glad we did. After I posted this question, I went online and did a search on the subject and lots of stuff came up under different forums and it was all BAD BAD BAD!!! So we are no longer under the galley. :D
nwcruiselover Posted February 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Good move! I think being under the galley is one of the worst locations to be. I think whatever you paid to move is money well spent!
chipq Posted February 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2013 Wise choice. I am a heavy sleeper as it is so the one time I was under the galley there definitely was noise although, I understand as the other post does that the very early morning aromas of the breads and pastries baking was far worse than the noise. It smelled so good and I alleged that this was the cause for me to overeat every day on that cruise. http://luv2cruise.blogspot.com
