fishtaco Posted March 4, 2013 #102 Share Posted March 4, 2013 Or it could be the same mistake that briefly appeared on the US website. That brief appearance on the USA web site has been on RCI Australian Web Site for around 4 weeks and has not been changed! The Classic has always stayed the same price shown as in checkout but the Premium has show a daily $55US value in Australian Dollars and at checkout 15% has been added to the cost raising the daily cost to around $63US pp per day! Would expect price to be £37 tops. We have the same problem in Australia:rolleyes: If you purchase on board it will cost what it costs in USA Dollars no more no less. Classic package on board is $45us pp pd and Premium package is $55us pp pd. There is talk of it being a web site error but they havnt change it in OZ and its been this way since the package was introduced. I suspect they are charging more to counteract possible currency fluctuations as they do with higher cruise base price fares compared to USA base prices. Australians can no longer book a cruise through RCI.com we must use the RCI Australian arm of the company which charges higher prices for some same cruises than is charged USA! We are no longer allowed to purchase a cruise in USDollars and must purchase in Australian Dollars! This stops us from being able to claim sale prices, price drops,or OBC with more strict cancellation rules implemented. Why are we not allowed to buy "in USA Dollars" a cruise from USA that only deals in USA dollars unless it is all about making more profit from non USA citizens? robynwally Posted March 4, 2013 #104 Share Posted March 4, 2013 We have purchased the package for our cruise next Monday. With conversion it worked out at $52.85 including gratuity ( gratuity was already included in the purchase price)
voosman12 Posted March 4, 2013 #105 Share Posted March 4, 2013 I will be on the Freedom of the Seas departing May 26th. Being this cruise my first with RCI, I did utilize the unlimited drink package on Carnival. I enjoyed not worrying about how much I was spending or deciding if I could afford the drink. I drank what looked delicious, I had a drink whenever I wanted, I drank what I never would have tried (and if I didnt like it, just went back for something else). For my upcoming RCI cruise, I still am having thoughts about just paying a la carte, but describing above is really what made it worth the cost and I don't think I will ever go on a cruise without the package. For instance, this was my typical "port" day. Mimosa for breakfast ($7), <day in port>, 2 crazy umbrella drinks by pool when back on ship ($16), Tom Collins or Jack&Coke or Capt&Coke during dinner ($7), Chocolate Martini during desert ($8), any drink during a show afterwards ($6) and then to finish possibly a drink walking around the ship/casino before right after ($6). Easily 50 bucks there and really is not unbelievable for someone in there 20s. More importantly, it was less about the cost and making sure I get my moneys worth, but it was about enjoying having a drink when I wanted during an amazing vacation! fishtaco Posted March 4, 2013 #106 Share Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) We have purchased the package for our cruise next Monday. With conversion it worked out at $52.85 including gratuity ( gratuity was already included in the purchase price) Was this with RCI AU? or did you use a USA Travel agent for the initial cruise booking? Are you saying that the price shown just before you commit to purchase is not the price you paid on your credit card? and you paid a lesser amount than shown? This is what my booking log on says as of right now! "The cost of a alcohol package is determined by the length of your stay, with an average daily cost of *53.35 AUD for Adults. Package Price for your 14 night cruise: Adult: *746.90 AUD" (Please note the * asterisk next to prices above) Below is my payment Due as per RCI Australia :Subtotal: *1,493.80 AUD (= 2x $746.90) Gratuity: *224.08 AUD Total: *1,717.88 AUD (= 2x $858.94) $858.94 divided by 14 night cruise = $61.31 AU per day pp which in turn equals $62.75 US per day per person. So you purchased under same booking as above but actually only got charged $52.85 AU pp per day? or the lower amount to your credit card? And if you did pay upfront, did you have to pay in $s or £s ? Our forthcoming cruise, dep 29th June for 14 nts (Indy) still has the red lettering that this package is not yet available and to check nearer the sale date. rxvan1959 Posted March 4, 2013 #110 Share Posted March 4, 2013 My travel agent said that even if you pay for drinks as you go, 15% is automatically added to your tab, so the bartenders shouldn't care if you have the package or not.

All the package flyers have the wording "15% gratuities included" as far as I am aware, so nothing is automatically added to the tab.

May I ask you How long ago was this. Our countdown has only allowed purchase for last week or so and is definitely showing added gratuity when put in to basket. I would be happy to buy if did not have extra gratuity. At moment I'm going to wait and pay on board, will work out cheaper and will be able to use my obc . Gumbey Posted March 4, 2013 #122 Share Posted March 4, 2013 Do they have a kind of "timer" as to when the last time you purchased a drink? I mean what is stopping people from getting a beer at one bar then coming back to your lounge chair then going to another bar for a non-alcoholic daiquiri or shirley temple?

Clarea Posted March 4, 2013 #125 Share Posted March 4, 2013 The person I'm travelling with drink A LOT of coffee and we're wondering... Regular coffee is free on the ship, and available 24 hours. Specialty coffee (latte, cappuccino, etc.) is extra cost, and is not included in any drink package.
