Cell Usage in San Juan

Not all rate plans for a particular carrier, will include US territories. The only way to be sure, is to contract your carrier, and check with them.

1. One poster said, they told their parents, and the parents ended up with a roaming charge. Different rate plans from daughter. Bet the parents had an old rate plan.

2. Someone said St Maarten. This not a US territory, it is France and Netherlands!.

3. Not all of PR is covered. Must check your phone, before making the call, and look at you screen to see if it says you are roaming. This goes the same for all US territories.

4. If you really want to use you phone, you can get a internation package added to your phone for a month. It is relatively cheap in many cases. You can get a data plan, and than you can skype to call.

We just returned from a trip to San Juan (not a cruise) on September 1st, we used our phones to text and make calls the entire time with no extra charges! We have iPhones through Verizon. I even sent picture texts without any issues at all. Cell service was spotty, but I found plenty of spots where it was good enough to call my kids back at home.

use wi fi and skype put the phone in "airplane mode" or else a big phone bill i am going b2b on freedom starting 9/27

If you just put the phone in airplane mode, wifi won't work as that gets turned off as well, but wifi can be turned back after enabling airplane mode.....at least thats how it works on my iphone and samsung galaxy phones....

Our AT&T phone and hot spot work in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John) with no roaming fees.

Awesome….I'll be in San Juan on a wednesday and I'll need to change my fantasy football teams and do my work pick em league before the thursday games. No roaming means I can take my time while the wife snoozes a little longer.
