ellie may Posted March 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2013 Hi,we are doing Southampton to aus next January,we haven't had our flight details yet but wondered if you get any options to have a stopover in Dubai/ Singapore on way back?::)
Dorset Cruiser Posted March 4, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2013 Just done the same thing this year on Aurora. You can break up the flight and also factor in a stay in Aus. We flew from Sydney to Melbourne for a week and then stopped off in Singapore for 2 days. We were given Singapore Airlines flights but be warned they have a 20kg weight limit which is not much after at least a 6 week cruise. Try and get BA flights - food is not as good but much bigger weight limit.
tinkerfenwick Posted March 5, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2013 Try and get BA flights - food is not as good but much bigger weight limit. Unless P&O have a deal with BA, standard baggage allowance for economy is 1 piece per passenger - 23KG. You can however purchase an extra piece online before you get to the airport for approx 40pound. This gives you an extra bag and extra an 23Kg allowance. Much cheaper than the XBAG charges at the airport...

On BA you can put a bag in the hold with 23kg and you can also take on up to 23kg as hand baggage as long as the case is within the sizes allowed and you can lift it into the overhead locker unaided by staff! jessybell Posted March 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2013 We have just returned (a week ago) from Brisbane. P&O booked us with Cathay Pacific and it was awful......bad food, seats didnt recline, poor service. The only good part was there were no delays. We stopped in Hong Kong for 2 hours. We left luggage on the ship to collect when it returns to Southampton...they charge £35 per case. Cathay Pacific only allows 20kg. Ask your t/a to get P&O to book BA or Virgin....much better. Skyrules Posted March 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 10, 2013 Hi,we are doing Southampton to aus next January,we haven't had our flight details yet but wondered if you get any options to have a stopover in Dubai/ Singapore on way back?::) Emirates flies from Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne/Perth and you can stopover in Dubai. (Not sure if P&O UK would orgainse this though). We went to the UK in 2011 on Emirates, and we broke our return flight in Dubai for 3 nights, and booked a stopover package with Emirates, which gave us accomodation, breakfast and transfers to/from the Airport. By the time you're cruising, QANTAS will also be flying to/from the UK via Dubai, so this could be another option.
