kruzseeka Posted March 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2013 What do people think of the Wadi Rum trip as we are there next week Excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed it. We booked as we just wanted to 'do something' rather than stay on the ship, or wander round Aqaba and had booked Petra for the next day - so we regarded it very much as a 'fill-in'. I had expected to see sand, sand and more sand - which of course we did but there was so much more to the scenery/landscape too. We saw the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, lots of huge sand-dunes, had the opportunity to ride a camel (payable locally where there were a few local traders too), see some ancient carvings in a rock face (it was quite up and down, rocky and hilly in places - not flat at all), had a stop at some site related to Lawrence of Arabia and had a refeshment stop and local music at an encampment (don't quite know how to describe it). There is a surprising number of colours in the rocks too and we found the whole experience far more interesting than we had imagined it could be. You travel in the back of jeeps so there is a bit of a hoist up on to the back although there is room for people to sit with the driver if they have problems getting in the back. It's a bit bumpy in part but good fun and not nearly as hairy as we thought it might be - although the convoy goes at quite a lick at times. It may not be for someone with a back problem as you sit down the sides of the jeep and if you want to grip the rail is behind you and that may involve a bit of twisting. But otherwsie I'd recommend it as something quite different - and far exceeding our (admittedly rather low) expectations.
bk1234 Posted March 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2013 sanmarco Going on the same cruise and booked Wadi Rum for the day when everyone is going to Petra etc as we wanted to ease ourselves into it the first day and just stay on board and maybe wander for a few hours. As kruzseeka says most people I have talked with on here loved it. Also doing the Nile Cruise, Desert 4*4 and Stars, Ocean Snorkelling trip and hopefully a half day excursion at Safaga (maybe if we have the energy!) Can't wait :D

bk1234 Posted March 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2013 ormy It was on the list but Mrs BK is suffering from plantar fasciitis and if we did Petra it would ruin the rest of the holiday so maybe next time!

Sunwales Posted March 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I went here 2years ago while on Red Sea Magic cruise we actually booked this ourselves with a taxi driver in Aqaba and did exactly the same only much cheaper. There are plenty of taxis in Aqaba just agree on a fair price they were brilliant. A fab cruise enjoy:)
