092306 Posted March 11, 2013 #27 Share Posted March 11, 2013 I would leave the auto tips for your child and tip the camp staff as you see appropriate the same you would the waiters and steward.
mere08 Posted March 11, 2013 #28 Share Posted March 11, 2013 When we traveled with our 4 year old (now 5), we tipped the full amount to cover our room and meals because she was just as much work as we were. We then tipped CC $20 at the end of the cruise because they did a great job and my daughter had a fabulous time.
spencercoop Posted March 11, 2013 #29 Share Posted March 11, 2013 That's actually the old tip split when tips were $10 pp/pd. Now they're 11.50. I don't know the breakout off the top of my head. Here is the new breakdown: $ 3.70 USD - Per Day Stateroom Services $ 5.80 USD - Per Day Dining Room Services $ 2.00 USD - Per Day Alternative Services: distributed to kitchen, entertainment, guest services and other hotel staff members. I do agree with others that have posted that your service personnel will be cleaning up after your 2yr old, waiting on you while you wait on your child, etc so why not tip them in full? Enjoy your cruise either way you choose.
Havingfun2010 Posted March 11, 2013 #32 Share Posted March 11, 2013 Look at it this way. The camp staff is part of the entertainment staff and are there to entertain the kids. Performers and casino workers, and the bands etc are entertainment staff, and are there to entertain adults. Not much difference between the two. Both groups get paid salary. So when deciding who to tip, remember that if you tip the camp staff, be sure to tip all the remaining staff that made you as an adult, enjoy your trip....Not trying to be sarcastic, but sometimes on a cruise, people get tip happy and tip those that normally even in real life on land, would not get a tip. Such as, would you tip your babysitter? No, you pay them for the service. So you paid the camp staff already with your kid's ticket.
tiff123 Posted March 12, 2013 #33 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I said little ones but was talking only about the 3 yr old. My other kids tip would certainly stay in place. My intention is to leave everyones tips alone if in fact camp staff gets some of our tips. I would only remove just the toddlers tip to give to camp staff if they would otherwise get nothing. My whole reasoning was we already pay a good amount in tips, my husband above that tips those few main people we deal with. I don't want the camp staff to get stiffed. The toddler as I see it will be with me like attached at my hip for the entire cruise. I clean up after my children, I would never leave a mess my kids make for someone else to take care of. I'm not looking to save money I asking if I can allocate funds a certain way not decrease those funds. Why not leave your child's tip in place and tip the Camp Carnival staff extra? It appears the majority of cruisers do this. If you remove the tip for your child, it will appear to the staff that you are removing their tip, since most other cruisers would not remove the tips for their children. I understand that you tip extra to some cruise staff. But since you do not know which staff members would be getting "stiffed," perhaps it would be best to save your extra tipping for the Camp Carnival staff? :)
