iamirish Posted May 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2004 I just read a review of the December 29, 2003 Mercury Cruise to Mexico. In that review, the gentleman said that one of Celebrity's cost savings was to substitute "non-dairy creamer" for half & half. Please tell me that this is NOT TRUE. I NEED real cream or half & half for my coffee. Tom

MISSYLOU Posted May 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Not sure about the creamer but on the last night of our Mercury cruise instead of those pretty little pats of butter we were brought foil wrapped assortment of margarine and butter. There wasn't even the normal amount of silverware on the table. jerseygirl3 Posted May 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Oh, no!!! The one thing I absolutely have to have is half and half in my coffee. I was so disappointed when Royal Caribbean didn't have it. Now I'm going on my first Celebrity cruise and they've done away with it? I may just have to smuggle some of my own on board! Faygelah Posted May 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I just got off the Constellation yesterday. There was real half and half (in little tubs for room service) with the coffee.
garykool81 Posted May 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2004 On a Galaxy cruise in March 2004, we also noticed that Celebrity had disguised some non-dairy creamers as "half and half" in those small typical bottles one would only assume contains half and half. Upon closer inspection, it is noticed that it is really that non-dairy crap :-) Gary Kulash www.badelephant.com Carnival Holiday 8/02 NCL Majesty 1/03 NCL Norway 5/25/03 NCL Sea 7/03 Celebrity Galaxy 3/04 Celebrity Mercury 10/04 HAL Zuiderdam 12/
reggierail Posted May 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2004 You have to read the label, or taste to find the difference. What I did was have the assistant waiter give me a glass of the creamer from the dining room and keep it in my cabin frig for the morning. mari 10 Posted May 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 10, 2004 On the Infinity last month, the only creamer I saw served was half and half. At dinner the butter was chilled on ice and cut into flower shapes. At breakfast and lunch the butter was chilled on ice, but wrapped in foil. Food and service was excellent, my only complaint was that I had to get off the ship after only 7 seven days. I wish I could have kept on sailing. TOPCATS2 Posted May 11, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 11, 2004 We had non dairy creamers on the Galaxy in April. It still tasted better by the pool in the morning than half and half at home while I was getting ready for work. Jill

mac3835 Posted May 11, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Hi, we were on the Summit in April - cream in the dining room and half-and-half in the buffet area. No non-dairy creamer was spotted on the ship! reggierail Posted May 11, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I've heard that whatever is cheaper is what they buy. With the price of dairy products skyrocketing, at least here in Cali, it looks like we may be seeing more of the yucky stuff. iamirish Posted May 12, 2004 Author #24 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I spoke to my TA about this. He called Celebrity and they told him that 1/2 & 1/2 is available. But there is the catch . . . you must special order it just like any special diet. This might work well in the dining room, at dinner, but I question, if this would work at the buffet or from room service. hajekfam Posted May 12, 2004 #25 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Non-dairy was always available by request - there are a few of us who are lactose intolerant that cannot use half-n-half. After all the deserts that are dairy based, that half-n-half in my decaf will set me over the edge and make for quite an unpleasant evening.
