Passports required for Canada and Mexico... when?

Hi,

 

I'm travelingon VOS Seward to Vancouver on July 29th with a group.

 

I recently heard that soon you will be required to have a passport for travel in/out of Canada (birth certificate/driver's licence combo no longer acceptable)

 

When is this change going into effect?

 

I have a passport, but others in my group may not.

I beleive that is effective December 31, 2005.

 

Might want to get that started soon and beat the crowd ;) I plan on getting mine after we return from this up-coming trip.

For Mexico and Canada, it's December 31, 2006. December 31, 2005 is the deadline for travel to the Caribbean, Bermuda and Central/South America.

Do you need a passport to fly into Canada?....don't get confused as to the Cruising requirements.

The above is the passport web site. They are still stating this a a proposed timeline and it still has not been passed. I would get the passports ASAP because from what I have heard this will go through and then it will take longer to get your passport because of the deadline.
