Is Carnival Fantasy a really 'Smokey" ship.

Hi everyone..I am new to these boards and certainly do not want to start a smoking vs. non smoking war....but I am reading a lot of reviews that refer to the Fantasy as being a ship with a lot of smoking areas. My son and I both have asthma and we do not do well with second hand smoke...I would like to know how concerned I should be....we will be going in August if that makes a difference. I would really like to hear from people that have cruised on the fantasty recently....did the rooms smell like smoke? How is the pool area, the kids clubs, comedy clubs, dining....what about the dance clubs????

I was on the Fantasy a little over a year ago - I am a reformed smoker and to the point where even the smell of it makes me nauseous.

- I did not notice the smell in our cabin (porthole)

- The cigar bar is actually no longer smoking I believe - when we went there was no one there and never noticed smoke smell.

- I never went into the dance clubs or casinos at night I'm afraid so can't speak to that.

- I know you can smoke on the port side outside - I may have noticed someone smoking, but no big deal there are two sides :-)

- So when all is said and done the only place I noticed it was in the port side wing of Windows on the Sea - outside. And if you sat next to the wall the smoke blew the other direction.

I hope this helps! Have a great cruise!

If you want to go on a cruise and avoid smoke, try Celebrity. They have the strictest clean air policy's of any of the large cruise lines. No smoking anywhere indoors including the casino, in cabins or on balcony's. There are only a few designated outdoor spots where smoking is permitted.

Thanks everyone...I should really try and not worry about it. It's really one of those things that are probably different each cruise and we will just have to figure out what to do when the time comes. I am thinking that in August the cruise will be full of families, so maybe that will make a difference...who knows!

Your statement is correct.........You will be fine.......I've been on the fantasy a few times recently & can tell you it's no worse than the other Carnival ships.

Yes the Casino is smokey when full

Yes the Disco is super smokey when full

But they were rarely full

Yes you may have to sit on the smoking side of the Lido.

It does happen

But all in all I never found the smoke much of a problem on the Fantasy.

Enjoy

I experienced the same as the others on the Fantasy. The casino was where I noticed the smoke. When I was on the Fascination (same class as Fantasy) I went to the dance club with friends and it was horrible in there. But if you aren't hanging out in the Casino or dance club - it should not be an issue.

I also have asthma that is bothered by second hand smoke. We were on the Fantasy last labor day. I did not have a problem. We didn't go in the dance club and only spent a few minutes during the day in the casino but had no problems at all. You will be fine don't worry. Have a great time.

Sounds like a No Fun cruise to me, I guess they will outlaw alcohol next..

I have sailed on Fantasy twice. I have (controlled) asthma and my poor son has intermittent uncontrolled asthma. As on any ship, avoid the casino and HOPE that the balcony next to you does not house a smoker. Other than that, we had no issues at all and I plan to cruise on Fantasy again in 2014!

I think the Celebrity smoking policy sounds WONDERFUL ! I've never equated having a fun time with smoking.

I wish Carnival would do the same. We enjoy the disco but lots of times we have to leave once our eyes start burning and our throats get sore.

We have sailed the Fantasy twice and plan to again in December. The only 2 places that I experienced smoke was in the casino and the bar right outside the casino on the side closest to the casino (not the side that is on the promenade).

My wife is a smoker, I am not, and we think that CCL has gotten the smoking/no smoking policy just about right. In many cases it is just a matter of common courtesy to those around and that applies to those on both sides of the issue!

I agree. The whole rear of the ship tends to stink of smoke since smoke drifts and doesn't stay in the "designated area". Can't use the casino, the dance club, or anywhere else they allow smoking. I would love to cruise Celebrity, but they do not offer Caribbean cruises in the summer, which is the only time we can cruise.

You can't have fun without smoking? Right now they're giving the drink package away and they don't limit the number per day you may have... that would be no fun wouldn't it?

Personally, I think that the Fantasy class ships are smokier than the other classes of ship in the Carnival fleet. The one thing that we noticed between our last 2 Carnival sailings (one on a Fantasy class ship, one on a Dream class ship) was how smokier the Fantasy class ship was. It seemed like we couldn't escape the smoke smell. Those ships were designed when people were much more tolerant of cigarrettes.

Yes, there's a wall of smoke in some areas (like walking by the casino, and at the night club), but even in areas where smoking is not allowed, there's a lingering stale cigarrette stench. One thing that we did notice was that there were several passengers smoking in designated non-smoking areas on deck.We did learn to avoid the smokiest areas and we were fine.

However, as someone said, if cigarrette smoke is a big consideration, you may want to look at other cruise lines with more stringent smoking policies. It's truly like night and day. Our last cruise on Royal Caribbean was a total eye opener. The ship smelled fresh and clean. We didn't smell cigarrettes ONCE during the entire cruise!

I was shocked on the Breeze, I was told there would be no smoking on lido " Food concentrated area ". Smokers ruled :(.

Like yourself I agree with the Fantasy class being a smoke factory .
