lithlith Posted March 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2013 We're cave tubing next week with VIV tours. How wet does one get cave tubing? I can easily sit on a tube and float around a pool without touching the water, but I'm unsure how different this will be. Do we have to wade into the river to get on the tubes or just get on at the rivers edge? If we have to wade, how deep is the water? Is a t-shirt and shorts good or is a bathing suit necessary? Is there any swimming involved?
trabeler Posted March 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2013 We've done tubing with VIV. During the walk to the launching point, you cross a shallow stream, which could be up to thigh deep, so that's your first opportunity to get wet. You get into the tube from a small dock, by "falling" into it from behind. The guides help you do this so it's easy. The tube has mesh on the bottom but you will get your butt wet plus some of your lower back. Any other wetness is totally up to you. On our tour, they gave people the option to jump into the water (at the stream crossing) or to get out of the tube into the river after we exited the caves. You have the opportunity to change into a swimsuit before taking the hike to the river and can change back before the return van ride. Enjoy the tour.. it was a fun experience and we'll likely do it again if we return.
