Thoie Posted April 16, 2013 #26 Share Posted April 16, 2013 Thanks Dermot. Are there pubs/restaurants along the way between Christ Church area and the Distillery? There are some pubs, some with food, on the way. If I was walking from Christchurch to the Jameson Distillery, this is where I'd go: http://*******/maps/LpWSK The Brazen Head serves proper food (as opposed to a toasted cheese sandwich). http://www.brazenhead.com/ I'd walk down the hill from Christchurch to the river, stay on that side of the river and walk down to the next bridge, where the Brazen Head is. Staying on that side of the river gives you a full view of the Four Courts. After having a pint/bite to eat, cross the bridge and continue to Jameson's. Thoie Posted April 16, 2013 #27 Share Posted April 16, 2013 this is where I'd go:http://*******/maps/LpWSK I have no idea why it doesn't like short google map addresses. The starred out piece just says goo dot gl The long address is: https://maps.google.ie/maps?saddr=Winetavern+Street&daddr=53.34511,-6.27597+to:Bow+Street&hl=en&ll=53.344898,-6.276106&spn=0.000759,0.00142&sll=53.347634,-6.27697&sspn=0.003034,0.005681&geocode=FbHzLQMd1kyg_w%3BFVb7LQMdfjyg_ym9xLlTLwxnSDG9-AcSuapPwQ%3BFQMHLgMdqTmg_w&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=2&sz=18&via=1&z=20&layer=c&cbll=53.344898,-6.276107&panoid=AyRYCNj6s7oxZ2J-sW_nOA&cbp=12,302.44,,0,-3.

BrazenHead is exactly what we are looking for and it is on the route I had mapped out. Carolyn
cruisecountess Posted April 16, 2013 #29 Share Posted April 16, 2013 DH and I did a two week self-drive around Ireland for our 30th anniversary four years ago. We had four days in Dublin at the end of our trip, so took things more leisurely. We used the HO HO bus two of our days. It makes life so much easier ~ and more fun. Our favorites in Dublin were the Dublin Castle, goal, and Trinity College. We encountered lines only while waiting to see the Book of Kells at Trinity. The room is small and people must wait their turn to advance to the bookcase containing the volumes on display. This causes a backup and the line was out the door. I don't drink beer so was not enthralled with the Guinness Storehouse; DH loved it. He had his beer and mine! We did have lunch in their restaurant, a delicious Guinness beef stew ~ now that's how to enjoy beer :). Do some research, prioritize what's most important for you to see, and make yourself a promise to return to Ireland some day. Harriet
Mairnealach Posted April 17, 2013 #30 Share Posted April 17, 2013 Thanks Dermot. Are there pubs/restaurants along the way between Christ Church area and the Distillery? In addition to the Brazen Head, there is also the Lord Edward seafood restaurant and tavern which is just across the street from Christ Church cathedral. http://www.lordedward.ie/ I have not eaten there and it is pricey, but it has a good reputation and is a favourite haunt of legal eagles from the nearby Four Courts. Mairnealach Posted April 17, 2013 #31 Share Posted April 17, 2013 We had a family lunch two years ago, and everyone enjoyed the occasion, in Chez Max, Palace Street. http://www.chezmax.ie/palace/ They serve French bistro food and it is situated at the entrance to Dublin Castle, a three minute walk from Christ Church cathedral. Mairnealach Posted April 19, 2013 #34 Share Posted April 19, 2013 Hi, When you were in Dublin, did you go to New Grange which suppose to similar to Stonehendge? Hi Trisha, Newgrange is a stone age passage tomb, so a bit different from, as well as being considerably older than, Stonehenge. http://www.newgrange.com/ Bus Eireann, the Irish national bus company, operate a day tour from Dublin to Newgrange and the Boyne Valley. https://ecommerce.buseireann.ie/asp/TourDetailView.asp?TOUR_CODE=C.D.2&SEASON_ID=506 If there is any specific information you require, then please let me know. No Hoho bus near the cruiseterminal. However there is a free shuttle into town and not too far from that is the Hoho bus.
