FYI: casino comps

Recommended Posts

This is crazy -/ my wife had 2000 points on our 4 day, then 2700 points on our 5 day and she called and was told she didn't qualify for anything -- seems the qualification is just as random as winning.

Agree that it's seemingly random! I don't know how I even got points since I play tables in the cheapest seats I can find, but they sent me a card for 75 casino play and discounted cruise. I DID play and win quite a bit on one of those machines that has blackjack. Got to a fairly high bet since I was winning. Didn't play it much, but it did get me the drink card, so maybe that's it?

I had a solo cruise that i spent a LOT of time in the casino and racked up over 22,000 points. The casino host told me i wasn't even close to being #1 as there were people with over 30,000 points.

Those are the people getting the big offers. I'm happy with the discounts and cash back they give me. And I do like the strawberries :)

Reading this thread brings up a few questions for me.

We just returned last week from a cruise on the Freedom where one of our friends played Roulette quite a bit. He was in the casino constantly. Another part of our group played Blackjack but not as much as the Roulette guy. They both walked away with about $800 each in winnings (or so they say).

On the last night of the cruise, our blackjack friend received a card and 2 bottles of wine which were delivered to him at dinner.

They were both first timers with Carnival. They both said they handed in their sign & sail card at the table. They both played the smaller $$ tables. Neither received free drinks.

Just curious as to why one received something and the other didn't?

If you figure this out, let me know. In 2009 on a 4 day cruise I sunk a grand into a Wheel of Fortune machine - in one night. Ended up losing about $1500 over four days. I received nothing.

Just returned from Carnival Liberty. What a joke it is earning points at a table game! Each time, I was badgered for my room card (used as a player's card) by the dealers & pit boss to earn my "points." Gave it each time, played every night for 1-2 hrs at blackjack table. NEVER played table mininum (always 2-5 times minimum). When asked if I'd earned a free drink was scolded "NO!" One pit boss even updated the other to not comp me a drink.

Same pit boss scolded me because my husband and son (also at table) had not turned their card in (after I asked if I earned a comped drink, not them). I was told like a child "maybe tomorrow." Suprise.....I suddenly won a bunch of chips and a drink was miraculously granted! And presented like a huge favor was done.

Granted, I can buy my own damn drink, but it's the stingy principle of it all! The casino was never that busy. Maybe offering 1 free drink to each table player would increase table play and revenues? It's called "marketing."

Just a heads up....

On our Magic cruise during Valentines Day this year I was asked every single time I bought chips with cash at the Roulette table for my SS card. This has never happened in the passed. In fact my wife asked me several times why they kept asking for my SS card. Each time they asked for it they would write something down in a log basically keeping track of what I am buying in for.....usually $100 bill as I head to the cashier for cash instead of lugging around chips I won earlier.

Anyway, on the 2nd to the last night the pit boss pulled me aside of the table, in view of everyone that was playing, shook my hand and handed me a envelop. He explained that considering my play during the cruise CCL is offering us a highly discounted rate along with $100 casino credit (not sure what the difference is compared to OBC other than that credit must be used in the casino?) for each of us for a future cruise. Basically a Vegas type comp for those that understand that type of thing.

The offer in the sealed envelop little catch was we had to book our next cruise within 14 days of disembarking and we also had to cruise within 6 months from that same time. We normally don't book that quick although we try and cruise twice a year. Anyway, we took advantage of the discount, which BTW works along WITH our military discount, and we are set to hit the Magic again in about a month.

Regardless, to the point of my reply. If you are playing table games and you manage to win a few bucks but have to get up to go to dinner or whatever....don't come back to the table with chips you cashed out with ($5, $25, $100). Head to the cashier and cash your chips in and come back to the table with CASH. Throw your $100 bill down along with your SS card. Point being, every time you sit down you want to make sure you are buying in with cash. If you buy-in with chips they won't even bother asking for your SS card. Make it look like you are spending a ton.

Again, our last cruise was the very first time they were keeping track of everything. I don't know why and I have no speculations. It is what it is. We will see if they do it again in May.

And for the record, I didn't leave the Magic casino Roulette on the plus side. On the first night I was up $600 but lost all that and ended the cruise down approx $400 for a 7-day. That's a good ratio on a cruise for me LOL. I didn't lose a ton by any stretch of the imagination and certainly didn't win anything but a good time.

EDIT: Keep in mind Roulette is my game and I didn't play much of anything else. I was a 'regular' at the table each night so the PB and dealers knew my face right from the start. Just saying that might have contributed.

Is getting your "Drink for Free" card on your previous cruises any indication that you may be entitled to some type of casino perk on your next cruise? If the answer to that question is yes, what should you do to make it happen?

Log in on Carnival's website. Click the special offers tab. Click VIFP Club Offers. Enter your VIFP Club number and search for cruises. If you have a casino offer, it will show there along with other offers like past guest offers. Once you get into the casino offers, you will see a booking code to take advantage of the offers, or you can book the casino offer online. The offers are capacity controlled and can change frequently. These casino offers typically come with casino cash that can be picked up at the casino cage once you're on the ship. The offer of and amount of casino cash does not show online though. These same casino offers are usually sent to you in snail mail too, and the snail mail info will show the casino cash amount. You don't need the envelope to pick up the casino cash though. Simply show your S&S card at the casino cage. You can check online too to make sure Carnival has your correct address so that you will be sure to get your casino offers in the mail. My online offers show a Casino Offer and a separate Premiere Casino Offer. The latter is an organized event that includes other perks like parties onboard and is typically for only a few particular sailings, but I don't think the cruise discount is as good as the Casino Offers.

I usually play table games and hardly use my card. On my last cruise, I played some slots and actually won some money. I eneded up playing slots quite a bit, and they kept offering me drinks...what I didnt know is that I earned the free drinks since dqy 3. Unfortunatley, I was already on day 5 when I found out. The pina coladas kept coming after that:D

all I have to say is offer code "PC1". Dont try and use it if you were not offered it... But if you were, free balcony for two and 500 casino cash once on board. Yeah, i booked 2 cruises (one 8 day and one 7 day) under this rate this year:eek: (My play ranges from $25-$200 per hand on blackjack and tip the dealers)

A good dealer knows exactly what you leave the table with and the pit boss records it. At least in Vegas they do. Of course cruise dealers are NOT always the best. A few times on the ships the pit boss has asked the dealer what I took away when I didn't color up. Of course they always have to get the pit boss' attention when someone colors up. Believe me they know the "fresh cash" trick.
