cruzeluvr Posted April 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Has anyone ever visited Guavate? We're looking to do something a little different while we're in San Juan since we have already done just about all the regular tourist things. Any comments would be appreciated if you have been to Guavate.
lah66 Posted April 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Hi Charlie, Last March after debarking AOS, we got a rental car from Chalies and drove to Guavate. It was an easy, beautiful drive on a Sunday. We got there about 11am so things were just coming to life. There were many people, out and about, socializing and buying crafts, plants, etc from tented kiosks and live bands playing. We ended up eating at LosPinos which was excellent. Nobody really spoke much English, but we did a bit of homework ahead of time so we knew what to order. They had meals..the Lechon with sides and you could just point at the sides you wanted. The food was fantastic! All in all it was a great cultural experience! By the time we left, the roads were much busier but again, not a difficult drive out. I would do it again in a heartbeat, given the time. Hope that helps! lauri

I figured that most of the smaller places will be closed during the week, but hopefully some of the larger ones will be open. Do you recall how long of a drive it was? lah66 Posted April 16, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2013 I think the Lechoneras are only open on the weekends...The drive was around an hour if my memory serves me correct...Lauri
hbennett Posted April 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2013 According to PR's tourism website, you will find some open during the week. Hopefully correct because we plan on going there on a Friday in October.
