Karysa Posted April 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2013 Many years ago we rented a car and toured the island. We saw many beautiful places but DH clipped a mirror on a wall and we had several near misses with trucks. DH has no issues driving in Antigua but we both found the traffic and the trucks to be worrisome in Barbados. On our last 2 stops we did the Cool Running Catamaran excursion and a daypass at the Hilton. This time we are thinking about doing the car rental thing again but I am now having some doubts. We would really like to see Bathsheba again, and Crane Bay beach. Can these spots be reached by bus fairly easily? We would sooner rent a car than take a taxi. TXCruiser2 Posted April 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Just got back from Barbados. We had reserved an island tour with Cameron Reid camireid@yahoo.com. He is very reasonable and the tour was completely customizable as we wished. I highly recommend.
Rare MrSchwump Posted May 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2013 In March we booked a private tour with one of Carson Moore's drivers. We were out for about 3-4 hours and saw a lot of stuff, everything we wanted to see and finished up at a nice beach bar near the port. I can't recommend Carson and his driver Coleridge enough! jenwrendorset Posted June 16, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2013 We were in Barbados for 3 days in December and decided to take the local bus up to Speightstown, north-west of Bridgetown on one of the days. Bus terminal located a 10 minute walk from the port. You buy your bus tokens at the terminal, each token costs US$1 (or B$1.50) per journey. You need the exact money, no coins. Catch the blue bus (yellow buses are able to play loud music throughout the journey and may be more expensive). When we reached Speightstown it was raining so we stayed on the bus which was going to Connell Town . Great journey, took over an hour and really interesting to see the local scenery. We actually went past Connell Town, possibly as far east as Flatfield – wonderful views of the Atlantic. There is nothing to indicate when you reach Connell Town – and nothing there if you knew you had arrived.. We stayed on the bus expecting some sort of terminal but then discovered we were on our way back to Speightstown – still enjoying our US$1 fare. We got off at Speightstown but not alot there either so we boarded another blue bus and returned to Bridgetown. Recommend the journey for a total cost of US$2 each. You can catch buses all round the island and it is a flat fare of B$1.50 or US$1 per journey.l buses. Must be the cheapest and most comprehensive way to see the island - to get over to the east coast I am guessing that you would need to change buses at possibly Speightstown - there was definitely a bus terminal there.
