tee3240 Posted April 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2013 I need some advice from the experts here! We will be going on our first Carnival cruise this July on the Splendor. We have booked a balcony cabin on the Lido deck (9) for our family of 4. I think it is category 8D. I was looking forward to staying on this deck, it seems very convenient. However, out TA just offered us a $600 savings but we have to move to a balcony on Deck 6, category 8A. The rooms appear to be the same size, etc., but it doesn't seem as convenient. But for $600... What would YOU DO? Your comments and advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
Annmarie58 Posted April 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2013 For $600.00 I would take it!! I tend to get sea sick and like to stay lower.Check the deck plans and make sure there is nothing noisy over you.
deedle7544 Posted April 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2013 See what is above and below the cabin on deck 6 - that's a major factor
bar1068 Posted April 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2013 Well, do you see the "convienences" you might give up being worth $600 to you? Hard to think any would be worth that much....

murphfam4 Posted April 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2013 Take the $600.00.
Ours91 Posted April 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2013 For $600 I'd probably do it.
Swayde Posted April 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 24, 2013 I'd take the $600! So you may have to walk some extra steps, and maybe some stairs. You'll need some extra exercise anyway to make up for the food =) The ships are big, but they aren't *that* big.
deedle7544 Posted April 25, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2013 the theater can be noisy, but depends if you go to bed early or not
cuyahoga11 Posted April 25, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I would be kind of curious how there could be a $600.00 difference between deck 6 and deck 9 in the same type of cabin.
careycouponer Posted April 25, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I love Decks 5 & 6 because you're 3-4 decks from everything and I'm much more likely to take the stairs. I'm a happier cruiser on one of those decks.
nybumpkin Posted April 25, 2013 #12 Share Posted April 25, 2013 If you stay up late, deck 6 is fine. If it were us, we'd stay with the first cabin. The first time we had a deck 6 cabin we were just aft of the theater, above the shops but near the forward stairs. We joked that we got to experience the shows twice - once in the theater, and again in the cabin when we were going to bed. After about midnight, though, that area is quiet. Second time we were above the casino. If someone hit a jackpot, we got to hear it - into the early hours.

We are going with some other families and I think the promotion is called "friends and family"? Not exactly sure either!

Do you remember your cabin #? This one would be #6235. Our kids are still fairly young (9 & 12), so most likely we wouldn't be up too late. I definitely wouldn't like it to be noisy. One problem we had was that we were near the stairwell - and the sound seemed to travel up the stairs.
Gopherpharm Posted April 25, 2013 #17 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I'd put the $600 towards excursions or other entertainment!
CatlinSTJ Posted April 25, 2013 #18 Share Posted April 25, 2013 We love deck 6! Easy to avoid the elevators :-)
cruise_girl2002 Posted April 25, 2013 #19 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I think the theater is below us...would that be noisy? I sailed on the magic and was right above the theater, we never heard noise. I for one, even though 600 is A LOT of money, I would stay on lido. both decks are good locations. deck 6, you are closer to the theater, bars, promenades etc. deck 9..on lido, near food. the choice is yours. FlaMilkman Posted April 25, 2013 #20 Share Posted April 25, 2013 That $600 would cover all of your tips and a good portion of your bar tab. I would take the money and run.
