Chichen Itza Cenote Swimming?

We are trying to decide between Chichen Itza and Dzibilchaltun. I know that swimming is allowed in Daibilchaltun at the cenote but is it allowed at Chichen Itza? We're really torn between the two places and knowing that we can swim in the cenote at Chichen Itza would probably make that our decision much easier. TIA!

You cannot swim at the cenote at CI. The swimming at DZ is great, but the water quality not as good as it was several years ago. In part this is due to swimmers using sunscreen. There are no showers or changing facilities at the cenote so the oil in the sunscreen gets into the water. If you must use sunscreen, try to use the water resistant sunscreens that will not wash off. The cenotes around Tulum recommend you use water resistant sunscreen.

Enjoy
