Cheers and our costs and comparison!

$575 or more !!!

One can know their bar tab as long as they pay attention

Its really easy to buy from BV and cut your bar tab likely in half

2 liters of rum/vodka for $130

I don't feel that BV is comparable. For us, DH really only drinks beer and wine, so that's out for BV. When I'm on a tropical vacation, I need my frozen fruity drinks, and I drink wine with dinner, so it doesn't really work for me either. Plus, I don't want to go back to the room for every drink, or carry a flask with me all day.

its knowing what the bill is AHEAD of time that works for us, and the convenience of not going back to the cabin to make drinks. A lot of reasons it works for us, if it doesn't work for you then don't buy it. We will. It works for us.

Judge much? Make assumptions?

Actually I do not judge much :)

For beer drinkers I have always thought its a great deal. Beer is way overpriced on Carnival

But it becomes not a great deal when both of us have to buy it, and I won't be making the most of it. At the lower price and with it available on HMC it would be a no-brainer, but now I don't think I'd make it worth it.

Now with the price increase I have read about to $49 plus tip it make's it more unlikely we would use it. But I'm very happy for the people that it works for.

And what people aren't realizing, it's not just alcohol that is included in this program ... it's also soda and non-alcoholic frozen beverages (so if anyone wants to take a break from their alcohol drinking, they can still get a soda and/or non-alcoholic drink, which isn't counted towards the 15 count, but is something that they would've had to pay for individually otherwise). Just sayin :D

Yeah, on an individual level I would subtract the price of the soda package from Cheers in determining if I could break even, which makes it about 5 or 6 mixed drinks daily.

But since both passengers need to buy the Cheers, the break even is 12 a day which is tough for casual drinking couples. And on port intensive cruises, forget it!

Apologies - that was snarky on my part.

Anyway, Cheers works for some, not or all. But we are all still on a cruise!

No worries :)

Im a bartender and just know how over priced this is

I can afford to do it but cannot justify paying pretty much a whole cruise fare more

We don't drink much soda so we carry on a 12 pack each and buy a bottle or two of rum from BV and its about $130 for the week

We book lido cabins so its not really a hassle for us to run back to the stateroom to make a drink or get a refill but I do understand those that are on different decks it may be a pain

Most people don't need the entire can or if you ask the bartender they will use pretty much the whole can in ones sports bottle

unless its not open I wouldn't like to lug around a can of soda

I didnt need or desire the can, it was an observation...

This is interesting for those who say they are not drunk when they have 15 drink in 24hrs. Seems like most people stopped for DUI's say the same, "but I'm not drunk."

http://bloodalcoholcalculator.org/

In my state Colorado a 150lb female drinking 5 Bloody Marys, 7 Cranberry & Vodka and 3 glasses of wine in a 24 hours period have a blood alcohol of .097% which is legally impaired.

Wow. If I was a 150 lb female and expected to drive the cruise ship, I probably wouldn't do Cheers.

But for me, a 240 lb male who doesn't plan to drive, my 15 whiskey and cokes results in an alcohol level of effectively zero (at least according to your calculator).

Thanks for the reassurance!

we have 4 in our cabin.

2 adults and 1 child.

Do I have to buy it for both us adults or can my husband just get the cheers program?

I if anything, can't drink often because of health reasons, but my husband could~!

Anyone over 21 in the cabin must purchase Cheers if one person wants to buy it.

I work in a luxury hotel, got to love those mark ups! But we do get those prices for it. People complain in a second about paying for internet then pay more than triple for a cocktail!

I've never been in a lido deck balcony cabin, that might make a difference. But I like the flexibilty with Cheers, looking forward to trying different drinks.

We were considering the cheers package mainly for the freedom of not watching our sail and sign. We knew we would probably not break even. My dh only drinks about 8 beers a day. But if we would still have charges from HMC it would take away our reason for doing the program.

:) Theoretically, your DH will "break even" on the cheers program after about his 5th beer or cocktail......only "problem" with the program is that if one of you doesn't drink at all, they still require you to both purchase the program.

If one has a couple or three beers during the day, and then a glass of wine or two at dinner, followed by a mixed drink or more wine later; for the single drink prices they list, you're ahead after about the 5th drink, if all of them are under the $10 per drink limit.... and the "daily clock" runs from 6 AM to 6 AM.

My question is if we have the cheers program and I'm on say drink 6 I can buy a bucket of beers at a 25% discounted price but do they count as part of the 15 limit?

I would think no because I purchased them outside the program.

I've been looking for this answer for awhile now and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Spiked coffee's are included in the cheers program. Just off the Dream and started each morning with a nice Caribbean coffee (or 2). And it's real coffee not that syrup stuff they use in the Buffett. Also keep in mind the 25% discount on bottles of wine. As for the 15 drink limit, not to worry... Just get 1500 points in the casino and you get the "Drinks on Us" card and they don't count (or care) how many drinks you have! Not that I had 20 drinks a day myself! :) :)

I have been on a cruise before where I was part of a group who had open bar cards. No number per day drink limit, just the cost of the drink couldnt exceed $10 like cheers does. So in essence, a pre paid bar tab. (and it was cheaper than Cheers so a better "deal" for sure). It was nice to know I didnt have a bar bill at the end of the week. I really don't know how many drinks I consumed. And never thought about it in the way of "I only had 5 today"...I must give away some....heck at that rate we could have all been buying the whole ship drinks :) But the rules were clear. No sharing. No buying drinks. The only time we "shared" was with bartenders who knew us all to be in the same group, all carrying these bar cards, and to save themselves time and headaches they would ring up a huge round on one persons card. So that person may have 20 drinks put on their card at that moment. But that was done because the bartenders made that choice to do so knowing we ALL had the cards. Some bartenders would do each drink individually. Their choice. To book as part of the group and get the cards everyone had to buy one. I really never felt that people abused them, we all drank what we wanted to drink, when we wanted to. But yes, there were some heavy drinkers in our crowd for sure. The 15 limit would have not gone over well :) These lads can put back beers in the daytime :) Plus quite a few of us had also ordered some stuff from Bon Voyage (if you're Canadian the prices don't seem so bad lol).

I feel the same way about Cheers I guess....yes I will buy it, it will work for me...basically after 6 or so drinks or whatever the number is I will at any time after that be breaking even or ahead of the game so to speak. And my bill is prepaid. I figure that over the week it will all work out just fine, for me. I guess the 15 number doesn't matter to me, in that I won't feel as if I didn't get something I paid for if I didn't drink them all that particular day. Because at 6 or whatever I did get what I paid for. The rest is gravy if I choose to drink more past that number. I suppose if it was a long day at sea and Ive consumed more than that 15 ...well there is always my cabin with my bon voyage bottle :) Although I do agree that the cutting off and not being able to even buy a drink is absurd.

Maybe that's not how most look at this program and perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe it's because I've had unlimited drink cards. I dont really know but this is how I see it. I'm happy its now available and that we don't have to get 30 people together to get the cards, even if this card is more limiting and costs more...Im sure it will still save me some money :)

So Cheers everyone :)

Can anyone answer this.... If I get the cheers package and I want to order a bottle of wine (yes I get 25 percent off) can I share the wine with a non cheers person or is that too not allowed to share? Just didn't know if the 25 percent was an added bonus and I can share?

Ok just a quick note to our exact pricing ex. for the cheers program. We sailed on the May 4th Western Carribean cruise on the Liberty:

Deborah had 62 drinks now remember I had a few of those when I hit the 15 limit, @ a cost of $466.65.

Now for me this is scary, I had 87 drinks for a cost of $691.05 wow seems like a lot.

Total cost was $1157.70 OMG that’s a lot, time to cleanse the liver 

On average we drank 24.83 drinks a day @ the cost of $192.95 per day.

The cheers program costing 691.50 worked for us but wow when you look at it it’s scary.

Mind you we where never drunk at anytime or making fools of ourselves. We do drink a couple a night and like to enjoy vacation. so if you like to relax and kick back a few I say yes to cheers!

OMG - your liver must be in a coma. A drink every hour commencing in the morning? It is scary (your words, not mine).

The wine doesn't count towards anything on your card, just gives you the discount. You are paying for it...so yes you can share your wine :)

I'm way too much of a penny pincher to spend over $1000 on alcohol for 7 day trip. Last few cruises I have purchased 1-2 bottles of booze and juice/soda cards. I take a Carnival Tarvis mug with my alcohol or alcohols of choice in it with me from the room and spike whatever juice or juices I have the bar tender give me. So with 2 liters of booze I can make between 33 and 66 drinks depending on how stout I want them. This along with the bottle of wine I'm allowed to carry on, and the past passenger party pretty much keeps me as tipsy as I want to be on a cruise. Actually I've NEVER finished all the alcohol I've purchased from BonVoyage. When I do a Back to Back cruise that gives me more time to finish the Bon Voyage booze but it also gives me MORE booze because I'm then allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine AND Carnival usually gives a big fruit basket and a bottle of Champagne as a thanks for booking back to back.

On the Freedom, they were not included...kind of. The alcohol was covered but I had to pay $1.50 for the coffee. This was at the coffee place and through the bars. I didn't try in the dining room. Lucky you!
