Kylie Posted June 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2005 We went cave tubing in Belize. What a great experience. Prior to leaving I contacted “Nacho” and his wife in Belize http://www.ncqadventuretours.com and made prior arrangements to meet at the Port. A personally escorted tour of Belize to include cave tubing, all for a lot less money and aggravation than the cruise shore excursion package. We paid (cash) after tubing. Nacho & his wife met us at the port (you have to tender in) with a big sign with our name on it. How convenient and easy and only 4 of us were off for cave tubing in Nacho’s mini-van. The cave tubing is about 40 miles outside of Belize City. During the ride, we learned so much about the country of Belize, the people and all there is to do. Also after you leave the city; the mountains look like a large sleeping Giant, hence the nickname, Sleeping Giant. You won’t get that on a bus ride to cave tubing. If you have read other cave tubing excursions, you probably already know that the cruise or even other private excursions use the gov’t facilities (bathrooms/changing facilities-not super clean!)and have to walk a bit further to start your trip. We went to the Jaguar Paw resort (Bill Gates has stayed there) to begin our excursion. This resort has 12 or so cottages located in the rain forest near the river. When we arrived at the resort, we changed in the resort facilities and set out on the approximately 30 minute walk. Several things were cool: Nacho’s wife came with us and a tubing tour guide from the resort- 2 tour guides for 4 people. Also by going the way we did, we were first to the river path and first on the trail. This allowed us to view some wildlife before it was scared off by the large bus groups. The other advantage of doing cave tubing this way is you actually start further up the river and get to go through 2 sets of caves, where the cruise excursion is only one. Unfortunately, after we came through the first cave, we met up with the large groups from all the cruises (over 400 from Carnival). You get the miner lights, like everyone else, so that you can see when it gets dark. You finish your journey right at the Jaguar Paw resort. We returned our inner tubes, got changed and went into the air-conditioned resort restaurant (which was included). It was like being in a green house in the middle of the jungle. This is also different from what the other cave tubing vendors offer-they eat outside. After lunch we walked around the small quaint resort. Then we headed back to Belize City again learning more about Belize and what else there is to do. We drove around the city for some sightseeing, with our guides pointing out the history of Belize. We even went by the oldest church and the governor’s house. We were returned to the port area with plenty of time to spare, we wandered around the port shops and then headed back to the ship to relax. This excursion was GREAT. Nacho and his wife were so pleasant and helpful. He has an e-mail and web site. He also offers many other things and he’ll customize the excursion to what you want (shopping, ruins, zoo, cave tubing, zip lining etc.) Just ask - he will also answer any general questions you have about Belize. email: nachoq_860@hotmailcom

Shellintampa Posted July 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 7, 2005 I also heard wonderful things about the Nacho&Cynthia tour we are booked for November with them for the cave tubing trip. Is it scary wondering if you make it back to the ship on time? that is my biggest fear!
Kylie Posted July 13, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted July 13, 2005 Nacho told us he wouldn't be late or he would take the responsibility of paying for our flights to the next port!
Shellintampa Posted July 24, 2005 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2005 I already booked with Nacho for Nov (mid) No deposit wAS REQUIRED! So if i changed my mind I would email him asap. I just visited Cave-tubbing.com Yhoni's site. They have very new looking vans and It is quite a bit cheaper like 25pp. Anyone possibly ever done both of these tours able to compare the pro's and cons. Kylie Posted August 2, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted August 2, 2005 Bunny- FYI, Nacho can do the cheaper cave tubing too but then you won't get to go through Jaguar Paw Resort, use their facilities, and also eat there afterwards with lunch included in AC. Going through the resort means a shorter walk to the water.
Shellintampa Posted August 2, 2005 #12 Share Posted August 2, 2005 kylie Thanks. yes I know he emailed me with that. We want the Deluxe Trip LOL Have you heard any comparisions between Nacho & yhonni? I've read good reviews on both. What is Nacho's transportation like? Is it New and dependable. I know Yhonni has what looks like comfy Vans New. Any advise or info greatly appreciated. have several traveling boarders on our Roll Call looking for more info on this to. Would love to be able to feel like we are making the wisest choice. thanks so much in advance! Shelli
Kylie Posted August 2, 2005 Author #13 Share Posted August 2, 2005 Shelli- The only comparisons I know are what I've read on these boards. We were happy with our choice of Nacho. His van wasn't that old but the TERRIBLY bumpy road you will take to get to the caves will ruin anything in a short while. Nacho kidded that the van wasn't even paid for yet but it was probably going to rattle apart before long. Sounds like from the boards here most people have been happy with all independently planned excursions to the caves. The Carnival excursion had over 400 people the day we went and we had only 4 in our group for less money....seems like a no brainer to me. The only hassle was terndering in. Good luck with your choice - I know you'll have a great time no matter who you choose. Kylie
tweety0227 Posted August 13, 2005 #14 Share Posted August 13, 2005 We just booked CaveTubing with Coral Breeze. I heard equally good things about it. However, going through the resort sounds enticing. Maybe I'll think about cancelling and going with Nacho
