lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #126 Share Posted June 2, 2013 What freebies did you get in each port? I am almost sad that you review is about over. We are going in September. Can not wait until August gets here. 91 more day til we cruise. Thank-you so much for the support, I hope your cruise is awesome :)! I got that coupon book at the shopping show for $25. For me it's worth the $25 as it covers most of my souvenirs for others shopping. Heck the free diamond necklace from DI alone is worth the price. Plus there are some stores offering a free gift just for coming in their store, not in the coupon book. I have no qualms about grab-n-go on the freebies :D:). lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #127 Share Posted June 2, 2013 I go to the casino and play blackjack until they close the casino about 1p.m. After the last hand and I cash out I'm $1 ahead, woo hoo. I then head to the dinning room for lunch. I start with the Bacardi and Coke Marinated Spicy Chicken Wings, very good. For an entree I get the New Orleans Muffuletta Sandwich on Crusty Italian Bread, not bad, different. Then for dessert I got the Chocolate Pecan Pie and Kiwi Frozen Yogurt. The yogurt was awesome the pie was to dry for my taste.

VOR Posted June 2, 2013 #129 Share Posted June 2, 2013 I was on the LA-Van just before this Cruise, and my wife and I commented while on board that we thought something was happening personnel wise on the ship. With a few exceptions, most of the staff seemed unhappy and not quite up to typical princess standards. It was nothing specific, just an atmosphere I have felt when working in a business that was struggling.

I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer to this question. Thanks!! We were on this cruise-There were two outlets above our writing table and they were three prong-I plugged in a power strip that I carry to take care of all the battery recharging outputs. lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #136 Share Posted June 2, 2013 Thanks so much for answering my questions I'm so glad you enjoyed your cruise! Your welcome :). Yes we did, in Alaska it so much less about the ship and more about natural setting. We hit the weather jackpot as far as I'm concerned.
lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #137 Share Posted June 2, 2013 I was on the LA-Van just before this Cruise, and my wife and I commented while on board that we thought something was happening personnel wise on the ship. With a few exceptions, most of the staff seemed unhappy and not quite up to typical princess standards. It was nothing specific, just an atmosphere I have felt when working in a business that was struggling. I heard that was a booze cruise full of college students. We were told at our M&M that the Golden just won the award for most liked staff by passengers from the company. So from those email survey's they send you, is what the award was based upon, or so we were told, by a member of the senior crew. Our waiter and his assistant were one of the best teams I've had, we were like friends who've known each other forever the whole cruise. I was not over the moon for our room attendant, and he did seem to have a chip on his shoulder or something was just slightly off about him. Then the incident with the waiter at lunch, but neither kept me from thoroughly enjoying my overall experience. I encountered many nice happy employees, in fact the ones doing the backstage tour raved about working for Princess and all 4 had been with the company for double digit years. I was surprised how open they were when people started asking specific questions about working for Princess and Carnival Corp.

lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #145 Share Posted June 2, 2013 Not much to report after lunch until about 5:30p.m. I head back to the cabin to get everything together. The plan is to get off at 7p.m. and just look around the dock then get back on eat dinner and then maybe go to town. At 7:20p.m. I said they have till 7:30p.m. to start letting us off or I'm going to dinner and Canada isn't getting a dime more of my money. 7:30p.m. came and went and so did I, Terry stayed, I went to dinner furious with Canadian Immigration for taking so long. I was in such a huff I didn't take any pix of dinner. It was 7:50p.m. before they started letting people off. You would think the object would be to get people in your town as quickly as possible to spend the max amount of money. There were only 3 of us for dinner, Terry was going ashore, another couple had said the night before they had an excursion at 7:20p.m. so wouldn't be there and the other couple decided to go to Crown Grill. Terry popped in just as we were getting dessert. After dinner and our goodbye's, we head back to the cabin and Terry talks me into going out. He reminds me that I will regret not getting off to see Victoria.

southpawsdakota Posted June 2, 2013 #147 Share Posted June 2, 2013 We have been on two previous Alaska cruises where they had a buffet on the deck one day that had salmon and reindeer chili, did you have that on the Golden? We will be on the 9/1 cruise and really enjoyed that.
lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #148 Share Posted June 2, 2013 We also got shuttle tickets through the ship which are a waste if we don't use them, so I get my stuff and once again head to get off. So it's dark great what am I going to see in the dark? The shuttle drops/picks-up on the side of the Empress Hotel. There is a whole shopping district right there also. It felt very safe to be walking around late at night, there were still plenty of tourists wandering around. Almost all the stores were still open, a few were closed or starting to close. It's apparent Victoria is well equipped and prepared for late night cruise visitors. The lights on the buildings were pretty, but I would like to see it in daylight. lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #149 Share Posted June 2, 2013 We have been on two previous Alaska cruises where they had a buffet on the deck one day that had salmon and reindeer chili, did you have that on the Golden? We will be on the 9/1 cruise and really enjoyed that. They had a Taste of Alaska Buffet. on Wed., by the Calypso Pool, but I somehow overlooked it and didn't see it until the next day, I was bummed. So I don't know what they served, I'm sending out my psychic vibe now for someone to come answer this question, and please have pix to share :D:). lovelearnteach Posted June 2, 2013 Author #150 Share Posted June 2, 2013 So we got back to the shuttle about 10:50p.m. at 11:10p.m. another guy on the shuttle yelled out to the driver hey it's 10 after 11 when are we going? The driver was standing outside the bus talking to somebody, he apologized, got on and drove us back to the ship. We went to bed when we got back as we have another long day tomorrow in Seattle. We have a tour booked with Savor Seattle, to tour Pike Place Market at 2p.m. Well it's the last night of our cruise and almost the end of our Alaskan Vacation. We have loved cruising to Alaska and are so pleased to have done it with Princess Cruises on the Golden Princess. A fine ship in the fleet, a wonderful destination, awesome itinerary, good food, we found it all and more with the Golden Princess.
