Bergen: Troldhaugen (Edward Grieg Museum)

Recommended Posts

I am looking for information regarding riding the light rail train from Bergen to visit the Edward Grieg Museum. From what I have read you take the train and then walk 20 or 30 minutes to get there. I am wondering if this is as easy to do as it sounds and also the cost of the train tickets...how long to allow for a visit, etc.?

We visited before they opened the light rail, so we took a bus from the station, and asked the driver to tell us when to get down. It wasn't too hard to find our way along the walk to Troldhaugen. I'm not sure if that bus stopped in the same place as the light rail, but from the latest Lonely Planet book it sounds like it:

There are free buses from outside the tourist office for most of the concerts. Otherwise, take any bus from platforms 19 to 21 at the bus terminal to the Hopsbroen

stop. From there, follow the signs to Troldhaugen; it’s a 20-minute walk.

You can look up directions and timings on the transit site (http://www.skyss.no), and it looks like it takes about an hour to get from the Byparken rail stop downtown to Troldhaugen (Troldhaugvegen 65).

We spent around around 45 minutes in the museum and another 45-60 minutes visiting the house and the grounds (it was a beautiful day). You could easily spend less, but we didn't have any other plans for the day since we'd been to Bergen before.

Thanks so much for your input and it was very helpful....especially loved the photos too. It was also good to get the link to the transit site. I live in Texas and we don't have that much public transportation so I am not experienced at that except for traveling! I think I will try it if the weather is nice that day. We will be there on June 19. I had read about the buses for the concerts but I could not tell if tha concerts were only in July.

Thanks again,

~Kay
