miamichic Posted May 30, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2013 Hello I am wanting to buy train tix I know that everyone says to not use rail Europe but when I try the Spain or French sites I cannot get the same trains. The only way is to book a portion of the ride on the French site and other part on Spanish site. Am I missing something doing it separate it $10 less but seems like a bigger hassle Thanks
Langoustine Posted May 30, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2013 You can book the entire journey on the French site (http://www.sncf.com/en/passengers) but unless you enter your "Ticket Collection Country" as France you will be redirected to the Rail Europe site, where I'm finding much higher prices. Langoustine Posted May 30, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2013 I use Paris and Barcelona as from/to I only get the night train. Unclick the "Direct Journey Only" box. You will then get a number of day trains leaving from Paris Gare de Lyon that require a change in Figueras and go to Barcelona Sants. The night train leaves from Paris Austerlitz and does not require a change.

Ainhoa Posted June 1, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2013 Do you have a need to get off in Figueras? If not why do you not take the Talgo (which is an overnight train with sleeping accommodation) from Paris direct to Barcelona without changing trains. I think it is the only train that does this, the reason being that the rail gage is different in Spain from that in France so for most schedules, you have to get off a train in France and get on another one in Spain. The Talgo however, carries two sets of wheels and just changes over the wheels at the border.
