Trondheim questions

Recommended Posts

HA provides a 30-minute excursion on the Gråkall line streetcar from the city center to Lian and the Bymarka, climbing Byåsen Hill to Hoembridge for a view of Trondheim and the countryside. If we were doing it on our own, where, exactly, does one board the streetcar, and where do you get off? Is Hoembridge a stop? I cannot find it on any map or on the Internet.

Other than taking the same tramcar back, is there any other way to return that you would recommend?

Is Bakklandet the Old Town, and if so, where is a good part to see the old houses? The reason I’m confused is because I came across an Old Town Walking tour, http://www.gpsmycity.com/user/index.php?do=show_map&tp=1&mid=3711 , which showed the area around Kongens gate between Munkegata and the river.

TIA.

Bakklandet is on the other side of Gamle Bybru (the old city bridge) from the area on the walking tour you posted.

The city center is the oldest part of the city and it's a mix of modern growth and historic buildings (Nidaros cathedral, Stiftsgården, etc.) Bakklandet is described on the Trondheim tourism page as "the first suburb." They have a suggested walking route for visiting Bakklandet, along with some pictures:

http://www.visittrondheim.no/en/tourist/temaguider/visit-walks/visit-bakklandet/

(The photos of the colorful waterfront buildings in Trondheim are typically taken from Gamle Bybru itself.)

You can find information about the Gråkallbanen on their website:

Or on the Trondheim transit website:

Thanks, kaisatsu, for clarifying my confusion regarding the Old Town and the first suburb, and for pointing out the walking route.

Looks like we'd take the tram all the way to Lian and back--the schedule you referred to will help ensure that we're on track re getting back to the ship. :)
