norwegian majesty

Recommended Posts

Hi I had heard that the majesty will end its run to Bermuda soon. Does any one have more info on this.? I have been trying to plan a cruise for 2006. I have been on this ship to Bermuda 5 times. If this is her last year , I want to be on her one more time.

We live in R.I. and it is so convenient to get to the pier.

We love Bermuda.:)

At this point, it's speculation and rumor. In my conversations with a couple of managers at NCL, there has been no official decision on the timetable as to the order that the old ships will go back (other than the Sea, of course), except that it will be by 2010 or so. They did say, however, that they want to keep the Boston-Bermuda run.

A great book on this topic is "The cruise ship phenomenon in North America" - it shows just how often ships are bought and sold to other lines. The Norwegian Majesty actually began life as the Royal Majesty, for Majesty Cruise Lines, and was built in Finland in 1992. It was originally built as a car ferry and then was redesigned for 3-4 night cruises from Florida. By 1995 it did the Boston - Bermuda run - Bermuda only gave this permission if the ship promised to only dock in St. George's.

NCL bought it in 1997 for $110 million, renamed it, and retained the rights to the Bermuda-Boston run. So the ship's already done quite a bit of service :)

While I'm on the topic, there was a REALLY cool story about the Majesty in this book that I wanted to share. It happened in June 1995. By that point they had GPS navigation systems on the bridge, and nav buoys in the water. The navigator would point the ship at a buoy, give it an arrival time, and the ship would maintain the course and speed to do that. Well, the night they were returning to Boston, the GPS unit malfunctioned and nobody bothered to LOOK OUT THE WINDOWS. They only noticed a problem when the ship ran aground on the Rose and Crown shoal off of Nantucket island, he he he!! :)

"Oh look, why are we heading towards those pretty lights?"

There hasn't been a formal announcement yet, but she is scheduled all the way through Nov. 2006 right now. Maybe 2006 will be her last year :(

Yes I was on the ship when it was the royal majesty. That was in Sept 1995.It was my husband and my first cruise. There have been more cuises on her after norwegian took over. We have been on the ship 4 more times .Twice on the shorter version and twice since she was stretched. One more time is all I ask. Live for that day. :p

I think there was an ATM on the ship but I can't remember where it was. I can imagine the ATM fees will be pretty stiff!

I'm thinking the ATM was just outside the casino, and the fee was around $5 or $5.50.

I figured there was one, and of course the casino is the logical place. I've never needed it, but nice to know it is handy if you do need it. I also recall hearing of getting cash through the casino, so thanks for the reminder. I do remember seeing the $5 charge at the Dawn casino.

Thanks all for the prompt responses you can always count on here. You just don't know who!
