NOLA taxi question

Are taxis plentiful in the French quarter? My mom would like to see it but she is ill and can't do much walking. My plan is to take a taxi from the hotel to Jackson Square and then take a carriage tour. I'm wondering if we'll be able to grab a taxi back to the hotel after the tour or if you have to call for one. Thanks.

Always a ton of cabs around, not always where you want one sometimes.

Canal St or Jackson Square for example have a lot of cabs, some of the side streets not so much.
