Transfers in Rome

We are cruising out of Italy in November on the Celebrity Silhouette and will be spending 4 nights in Rome prior to the cruise. First time cruising out of Rome and not sure what is the best way to get to the port without dragging bags on a lot of public transportation. We would appreciate any advise anyone might offer.
