New Orleans Hotels?

Hi Everyone. Our friends are starting to book their pre-cruise hotels in New Orleans. I have never been. One of the couples has made their reservation at Inn on St. Peter.

What recommendations does anyone else have? My husband has Marriott points that we may consider using but we haven't committed to using them. All recommendations are greatly appreciated.:D

Hi Cryz. You may want to visit the Home-port threads. The link below is for Gulf Coast Departures. You may find some info already there or ask your question. We are staying at the Hampton Inn Convention Center, others are at the Drury, Homewood Suites, Harrahs, Omni Royal, Quality Inn, Ramada to name a few. Hard to say which on e is the best. You can also

Google Cruise and Stay packages New Orleans and there are a few sites that come up.

Have a great cruise. :)

We stayed at the Drury Inn last year and will again this year. We really like the Drury.

Whatever you choose, I do have one tip for you......book it early. There ALWAYS seems to be something going on in New Orleans and if you look around in New Orleans threads you will see so many people say that they are having a hard time finding hotels because everything is booked.

We originally planned to cruise in Nov of this year. I started looking at hotels in March and 90% of them were already booked. Most of the remaining hotels within the French Quarter or within walking distance were $300 to $400 per night.

We got lucky and got a room at the Drury but would actually have had to move rooms between night one and night two because of what was already booked. and that was 8 months in advance.

We then had to change the cruise to September. Managed to get into the Drury booking right away in June when we found out we had to change the date.

So where ever you choose to stay, don't wait to book it. Best case scenario, find somewhere you can book with a price you can live with and that has no cancellation fee. Then you can take your time and see if you can find something you like better or for cheaper in the meantime. If you do Great. If you don't, well you already have a hotel booked so you're safe

Good luck!!!

PS. There are some really good reviews I've read on Trip Advisor on some Bed & Breakfast places in the Garden District. One in particular was called B&W. Really positive reviews.

Hi! Just thought I would chime in and say when sailing out of NOLA the last couple of trips, we have stayed at the Marriott Convention Center (Julia St. I believe). We will also be staying there in Nov. for our Thanksgiving cruise. Included in the rate is valet parking of your car for the duration of the cruise. It is very close to the port and also very close to a trolley stop. We pretty much have them park our car when we arrive and don't see it again until we return. We take the trolley wherever we want to go downtown. The morning of the cruise we take a taxi to the port, this is walkable but with luggage it can be a bit of a pain. Hope this helps!

Sorry to high jack this thread, but can you answer a couple questions for me? We are staying at the Marriott at the convention center (using points one night and the $149 cruise and park package the other night). Is the parking lot at the hotel and is it covered?

How far is the trolley from the hotel? We have a cemetery tour and need to take it to it to over to Decatur street (it says a few blocks down from Cafe Du Monde). It looks like they run pretty regularly and you can buy and all day pass for $3, correct?

Thanks!

If you have an Amex Platinum card, you may want to look into their Fine Hotels and Resorts options in New Orleans. Our Amex cruise specialist offered us a choice of the Ritz-Carlton or the Windsor Court...we chose the Windsor Court - great rate, platinum benefits included a complimentary suite upgrade, $100 restaurant voucher, early arrival and late check-out. Beautiful hotel...right near the casino and steps outside the FQ.

Disney-

I am not completely certain, but I don't think it's very far from the last stop on the trolley line that runs along the river. I'd call the hotel on that. Decatur street is only a block from the river and the trolley line. Just ask the driver where to get off and I think you'll be fine. I don't remember the fare, but it's not much.

Hi Disney! Sorry I am late answering your question. The parking is at the Marriott. It is tiered covered deck that joins the hotel and has valets. No issues at all, easy in and easy out. As far as the trolley, it is a couple of blocks I would say. The trolleys do run regularly and you can purchase a pass but I am not sure the price. Our routine is to check in, then hop the trolley to the French Quarter for exploring. When we are done we hop back on. I believe you will get on at the Julia Street station. Have a wonderful time, we LOVE sailing out of NOLA!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have stayed at both the Drury and the St. James on Magazine Street. For just one night, I would probably go with the Drury, because it is a shorter taxi ride to the pier. If you are there for a couple of days, I would look at the St. James. Make sure you ask for a room in the front building. It was a beautiful antique furnished room. The hotel was a Confederate hospital during the Civil War. Imagine my surprise when my walking ghost tour of New Orleans paused in front of our hotel to talk about the ghosts that have been seen there!
