How do I complain effectively?

Northender, you're right. Every nation has their fair share of twits. My perspective is somewhat unique since I'm a Canadian living the US (legally). Canadians love to bash Americans, but would give their left arm to be able to enjoy some of the things that US citizens often take for granted. Americans tend to put down Canadians, but secretly wish they could be as well-liked everywhere they go.

I admit, that is very general, but it makes for a good 7-second sound bite, which is how we get most of our information anyway.

Spongerob. After each of your posts, I usually check to find out where you were from. You never wrote as if you were born in the U.S.A., and at long last you have solved my problem. :) john

That was not really general, Spongerob. I think you put it in perspective.

I have dual citizenship (US and Canadian) so I see both sides of the issues easily. Today I am dissed at the Finance Minister of Canada  regarding the drug issue - but wouldn't be surprised at all if the Drug Companies are calling the shots on this one.

Love these posts - we go from a "ranting socialist Canadian" all the way to Global Warming. Ya gotta luv it. :D

And International Relations!!! :D

I don't understand the drug thing either. If there is demand exceeding manufacturing capacity, then the capacity will be added if the profits are there. Is Ottawa worried about running out of aspirin...or *****?

Contrary to what is being taught as "fact" today, global warming has been going on for the last 10,000 years or so. It was just that recently that a good chunk of the northern hemisphere was covered in ice. If you read the story in the rocks, you also know that the world has at times been much warmer than it is today - long before humans had a hand in anything.

Rob – I highly admire your articulate nature, and you’re the expert when it comes to looking at the rocks, so you could very well be correct. But I would respectfully say that in the last 100 years, we humans have helped to push along the global warming trends. Until there’s some definitive evidence that this planet isn’t suffering ill effects because of rampant industrialization, I think it behooves us as a people to do what we can to protect it. Maybe that includes speaking out on a bus when you have a captive audience…maybe not.

Hey there as you can see by my profile I am a Canadian and proud of it, I have not meet any "holier thah thou" Americans. As for Starbucks, I wish that there was one here. The coffee on Princess is so bad, I drank tea.

As for the "rants" of a bus driver----just take as him having a bad day.

Maybe we can end this by somehow letting the driver know that he should be happy to have Starbucks all around and he did not have to drink Princess Coffee for a week or 10days :D

"As a Canadian I agree with this posting, and I would suggest to Poodlesnoot that he should not criticize a Canadian, or anyone else from any other country, until persons in the U.S.A. are deemed perfect. I like the vast majority of the Americans that I have met, but it is my opinion that his 'holier than thou' attitude, tends to make others resentful of those from the U.S.A. john"

John, I am sorry that you are meeting American's with the holier than thou attitude but we get to live with them all the time. :(

I hate to say this, but consider two little facts. Druggests like making money, and the U.S.A. has ten times the population of Canada. Put those together and we in Canada, without controls, would be left with nothing BUT asprin.

Did someone want a new bus driver? Try Miami. :) john

P.S. I think that this thread has covered all banned subjects, except for 'naughty bits'. Oops ;) ;) m g

You will all be happy to know that I will not be on the boards much for the next thee days. Its Canada Day long weekend, you know. After a close vote it was decided to incude bus drivers, in our festivities! In our little city we have something called 'Funtastic', a kind of three day mini Olympics. I have a lawn bowling team, but, due to the 'laws' of the events it must also include the following. Beer, pizza, wine, fish and chips, and of course cheese. We do have a few entries from Washington State, however I heard that at the last minute that they were advised not to come by bus. I can't think what may have changed their minds. :D john

You know there's no arguing with the fact that we need to do a better job managing finite energy resources. The oil embargo of 1973 did more to encourage people to change their habits than the current focus on science that not everyone agrees is correct. It's the old correlation does not imply causality thing again. The Saudis really did us a favor back then - we were introduced to fun cars made by Datsun and Toyota, and though the first American efforts were dismal, we ended up with higher quality and more advanced cars. The downside to that, like the so-called "light" snacks, is that they encouraged more consumption, not moderation.

$60 oil is scaring people away from SUV's. Maybe we need $80 oil to encourage real change, make alternative energy sources a truly economical proposition, discourage urban sprawl, and encourage urban renewal...then the real polluters of the world, such as Southeast Asia, China, and India, would get off the stick and solve their own environmental problems instead of whining about our use of energy.

To answer the OPs original question, I believe the proper way to complain would be a letter to Princess essentially saying, "I believe that you may want to know that on the bus on the transfer to the airport after our Alaska cruise, the driver continually engaged in a political diatribe which I and several other passengers found offensive. Given that you are in the business of pleasing passengers, I'm sure you would be interested to know that several passenger's last impression was not a good one".

In my opinion, this would explain to Princess why they should have a vested interested in the complaint.

Do I really think this will do any good? No, because, as several posters have said, this kind of thing happens all the time.

But I do think that it's worth a try.

As a Scot and therefore a neutral in what has become an intra-continental conflict, I think it would be worthwhile taking all the heat generated by the original thread and donating it to the new Nuclear Fission project currently being undertaken in France. Apparently all that is required is a few drops of seawater and a temperature of 10 Million degrees celsius. I imagine that this thread could already donate a few million of those.

Good idea Rob, and if we combine these two with a "bad coffee" thread, we may create an energy source superior to and cheaper than fission, thus leaving more drops of sea water for us all to sail on....let's get copyrighting!!

OK Fantazy. You're in for a 30% cut.......the remaining 10% of profits is split between the Retired Bus Drivers Of Canada Benevolent Fund and research into shoulder-chip removal techniques.

My daughter is leaving for Spain in a few weeks. She was told by a friend of hers who is from Spain that to avoid any conflict she should "act Canadian" What exactly does that mean???:D

Should she avoid driving busses? I hear Canadians are rude when they do that...

I just know that if I lept on reading this thread I would get a great laugh. Thank you one an all.

To Karfest not all bus drivers are rude, some are very nice indeed, they sort of have this knack of knowing things some tour guides do not know.

Also Grumm Where in Scotland are you? My father is from Paisley, have a lot of family there.

Every one have a safe and grand Canada Day and Independce Day.:)

I live midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh-about 20 minutes drive from each. I stay in a small rural village with two pubs and one shop, probably a million miles from what you're used to, but we like it. For the record, we love welcoming both Canadian and American friends, although having scanned the content of this thread, not necessarily at the same time!
