dcruisers Posted June 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2005 We are going on the southern explorer cruise next Jan with Caracas as a stop. However, with the security concerns, it was taken off the itinerary. I just assumed that we would be going to the Isle of Margarita instead BUT our itinerary on our personal Princess's booking screen, it says GUAMACHE. Where is this place and has anyone ever been there? Thanks for any info!
Polar Bear Posted June 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2005 We were on the Golden in April, they changed our intinerary too! Isla Margarita (Guamache) is not a bad place, big beach, alot of outdoor shops. We did not do a shore excursion, but we are when we go back in April 2006 on the Sea Princess. Nice shops for fresh water pearls, hand crafts and they will barter with you. There is also a few places to get liquior and one place to get Murano glass, at a very good price , they also pack your glass very well, not a broken piece when I got home. It is a nice place just to relax, do a little swimming , walk on the beach. But bring cash not credit cards. They seem to perfer cash. Hope you have fun on your cruise.:)
klouised Posted July 17, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2005 El Guamache is the area (not really a town) that the port is at on Isla de Margarita (Margarita Island). There is another port on the island that is in Porlamer. It's big and beautiful, but it hasn't received the permits to open, yet. It's right downtown at the walking streets, so you could leave it easily to go exploring. The port at El Guamache is far from anywhere, but the open market is one of the largest of the islands.
