cruisingbarb Posted August 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2013 We are interested in exploring a portion of Captain Cook's Trail, including Frenchman's Cove, Bottle Cove, and Lark Harbour. The ship's tour seems a little pricey. Will there be cabs waiting when we get off the ship that we can hire? If so, does anyone know how much for a 3:00 to 4:00 hour tour? alexandra cruiser Posted August 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2013 for this advice.Looked at tourist office ,guidebooks, etc.Found no taxi tours listed. Then talked to resident of Cornerbrook(on another cruise) and she said when ships come to town ,its packed(very small town). So enough taxis not available. To see the major sites we ended up signing up for ships tour.Going next mo.and will post if I find alternatives when there ,,,for others in future.;)
maryann ns Posted August 4, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2013 You may find Tom's port guide very useful for this: http://www.tomsportguides.com/portguides.html Here is a quote: The drive along the South Shore offers scenicviews of the mountains, the harbors, and islands. I would highly recommend this tour. A lower cost alternative to the ship's bus excursion is to hire a taxi cab at the cruise dock. The flat rate 2012 price was $ 125. If four people share the cab, the cost is much lower than the ship's bus tour. In addition, the taxi gives you the flexibility to stop wherever you wish to take photos along the route. You could easily drive this yourself. There will be little if any traffic. You could also rent a car and drive to Gros Morne National Park. c breeze Posted August 4, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2013 I highly recommend the ships tours to Gros Morne National Park. We were there a few years ago and it was by far one of the best tours guides we've ever had. The scenery (if it is not raining) is spectacular!
