BoA to acquire MBNA for $35B: change to NCL Card?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :( I knew something was going to go bad. MBNA was the best financial company I've ever dealt with. I've avoided BOA like the plague. We were going to switch to the NCL card after our next statement. BOA will mess it up for sure. Look for the 3% return to drop to the "Industry standard" of around 1%.

I'm with you...I hate BOA. They have fee's for everything. I just got rid of one of their CC's because the into rate of 0% was removed 4 months early and I was given a 24.9% rate instead. They said it was due to too many requests from Equifax on my record. Well duh..I just got that card, I am buying a house and I am buying a new car. They didn't care.

I've never delt with BofA, but you guys are scaring me. It sounded like the MBNA CEO will still be in charge of the MBNA unit, so maybe there's hope.

I can honestly say that the only reason I gave NCL an honest look when I decided last year to start cruising again was because of the NCL Mastercard.

I hope they keep that 3% rate b/c it's driving fresh business to NCL and they'll be far better off financially in the long run with more bodies trying to get on their ships. After I came back from my May 05 Alaska cruise I boasted about it around my office. Now someone else is going on an Alaska cruise in August from my office, as a result of me. They're going NCL.

I don't really know how these things work, but maybe someone can tell me how much input NCL has in determining the size of their "rewards." I hope the decision is theirs, and they're happy with the card as it is. That being said, I recently cancelled a BoA card, so I'm worried...:(

That is the key point. MBNA has 100s of loyality cards all with different programs. There is another MBNA cruise card that an online agency has that is no where near as good.

NCL would have the major say in the reward part of the program. BOA will now own the finacial part and customer service. Interest rates, fees, credit limits are the decision of the bank.

Keep in mind NCL all you earn are in fact discounts on NCL not cash rewards. A dollar of credit does not cost NCL a dollar.

BOA could raise the cost to NCL forcing them to change the program

What this card does is reward loyal passengers and make sure they return over and over. This is the only real program they fund for that purpose. Lattiudes has one level sail once you get all the perks.

That said I hope BOA does not mess this up as they have so many other things.

I just maxed out for this year I can assure you I will be using all my current credits sooner rater then later.

If worse comes to worse, and the program is completely cancelled, we'll still have time to redeem and use the certificates:

NCL Compass Rewards Program Rules

Page 7 Section 13

Changing the Terms of the Program

"In the case of termination of the Program, you may continue earning Points for ninety (90) days from the date notice of termination of the Program is mailed. One hundred and twenty (120) days from the date notice of termination of the Program is mailed, if your cumulative total of available Points is sufficient to qualify, and you meet all other eligibility requirements described in the Program Rules, then MBNA will send you the appropriate number of Certificates. Each Certificate issued in connection with the termination of the Program will be honored by NCL, Orient and/or Star for three hundred and sixty-five (365) days from its date of issue."

Hi! Are you still on your business trip? I have a question, I know you have answered it before, but, WHAT is the MAXIMUM credit amount you can receive from the MBNA NCL credit card in one year? Is it $1000 or $2000? Thank's!!

Suesan:) :) :)

That's OK if you are not Shoreguy, you answered my question!!! I am glad my DH got his own NCL card, we will have to switch to using that soon because I am almost at my $1000 max. Why use my card if I can't get any more points!!:D

Stay cool and HAPPY 4th of July!!!:)

I sense a royal disaster, at least for me. I have one of BOA's cards for a hotel chain that I just received and have problems with already, another MBNA card for a casino, and of course the NCL card. That means three of my most used (until this deal goes through) credit cards will all be BOA cards. Having dealt with both, I have to say that MBNA is much easier to deal with. Of course, every company I like to deal with gets eaten by a bigger fish and is never the same again - my ISP, my nice local bank, and now even my huge credit card company. I'm afraid NCL will be next at this rate....
