Question for Bill Lieber - Faaborg cancellation

Recommended Posts

We are booked on a cruise on Azamara Quest which leaves Hamburg tomorrow. This morning I received an email from the TA to say our first port, Faaborg, has been cancelled. Does this mean we will stay in Hamburg an extra day or will we have a day 'at sea'? A bit disappointed at this very short notice, so any information will be much appreciated.

I understand that the staff of the Kiel Canal is on strike, so today's Quest sailing can't transit the Kiel Canal. Therefore, they now have to sail all around Denmark to reach Copenhagen in time. Tomorrow is therefore a sea day and Aalborg is indeed cancelled.

Hello Grandad -

I've checked with ship operations and as Floris mentioned, there is the likelihood of union worker strikes in the locks of the Kiel Canal; therefore, the Azamara Quest's planned transit of the canal has been canceled in order to maintain its scheduled itinerary. Azamara Quest departed Hamburg, Germany, today at 6 p.m., 07 August, in order to arrive at Copenhagen, Denmark, as scheduled on 09 August. As a result, Azamara Quest also must bypass Faaborg, Denmark, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, 08 August.

We extended our apologies to the guests for this unanticipated itinerary adjustment, but in an abundance of caution we truly believe that it was in the very best interests of our guests and their overall cruise experience.

Azamara Quest’s will start a nine-night voyage from Hamburg, on Wednesday, 07 August, and will make port calls at Copenhagen, Denmark; Oslo, Norway (overnight); Zeebrugge (Brugge), Belgium; Honfleur (Paris/Normandy), France; and St. Peter Port, Guernsey. The sailing will conclude in Southampton, England, on 16 August.

Best regards,

Bill Leiber
