mcgovernsandra Posted August 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2013 We will be on the Sapphire Princess in December and it will be our first Mexican Riviera cruise. My husband enjoys surfing and would like to spend a couple hours or so surfing in the morning, but we don't want to waste our whole day on a beach excursion or surf tour. Is there any beach with good surf within walking distance or a short (less than 1/2 hr) cab ride from the port? Any help would be appreciated! CWcruisers Posted August 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2013 There is no surfing in Cabo. The Sea of Cortez, where Medano Beach is located, does not have surfing waves, and the Pacific Ocean side is too dangerous. You would have to go to San Jose del Cabo, about 30 minutes from the tender pier, to surf. Here is a guide to surfing: http://www.surfline.com/travel/index.cfm?id=2159 Not sure what a cab ride would cost you to go there, cabs are not cheap in Cabo. downsized Posted August 16, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Once you disembark in Cabo, you can catch a water taxi to Medano Beach, where they have standup paddle boards and jet skis, but as CWCruisers suggest, the surfing will be....um...less than underwhelming. Better to take a water taxi, view lover's beach, the sea lions, divorce beach, and have them deliver you to Medano Beach....about $12us per person. The best $12 you can spend in Cabo (IMHO). Find a Cantina on the beach (and there are dozens of them), have a great inexpensive meal, cheap drinks, swim in the ocean, and wriggle your toes in the sand. The trip back to the Marina should cost you about $2us pp.
