The Wrecker's Museum and tower is the closest to the docks but you must take into consideration opening times. Hemingway house - 9:00 a.m. but then you have to wait for a tour to start. Lighthouse - 9:30 Shipwreck museum - 9:40 (for some reason) Oldest house - 10:00 The Hemingway house and the lighthouse are almost across Whitehead from each other, so I'd do them first and second, then continue to the Southernmost Point. From there you can walk over to Duval, one block on South Street, then come back on Duval to see the Oldest house. Then the Wrecker's museum and tower last. Based on how much time you have, you can also see the Bahama Village on the corner of Whitehead and Petronia, just before you come to the lighthouse and maybe the Butterfly Conseratory on Duval before hitting the Oldest house. If you do the Wrecker's museum last and still have time, you can have a drink and some masitas at El Meson de Pepe which is next to that little scupture garden or at the sunset pier at the Ocean Key Resort, 0 Duval or, based on how much time you have left, at the Key West Bight at one of the bars there. I like the tower bar at Turtle Kraals. Just one plan. Pjk

KenNBarbie Posted September 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Can someone give me an idea how many blocks walk it is from Carnival Pier to Duval street, the maps look like 4-5 maybe, but it's not a straight shot - is it? Are the sidewalks jam packed as everybody files off the ship?

Are the sidewalks jam packed as everybody files off the ship? Yes, it's about 4 blocks or so. Yes, the sidewalks can be full of people, but we have never had any issues as the whole area is well designed for walking. It's not necessarily a straight shot, but it is easy to get to. KW is the best port for just walking around on your own! Pete
Langoustine Posted September 30, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Yes, the sidewalks can be full of people Ten years ago, when I was last there, the sidewalks (and the streets) were also full of feral chickens. Is that still the case?

Not at all. They are mostly confined to the residential areas. Mike:)
