Independence Day- Mexico

Sept 16 is Mexico's Independence Day...turns out we make a stop in Progreso. Anyone have any experience arriving in a Mexican port of call on this day? Are shops open? Does everything close down? Thanks!

Darn we're missing it by two days (Baja is considered a part of Mexico isn't it?)

It is no big deal there. The shops will be open. Any parties will be long after the ship has left.

Independence Day (September 16) is a big holiday. Schools, banks, government offices and most businesses will be closed. People come to the beach for the holiday so all of the restaurants, bars and tourist oriented shops will be open. Since this will be a three day weekend, there will be lots of people out and about.
