First time cruiser ! Just curious on what is fun and what's not. Gambling !? I mostly like Slots anyone play them and mostly lose ? Win a lot ? A lil of both ? I know gambling is plan on losing but just curious on the odds. And shopping on the port days is stuff way over priced or can you cut some deals ?? I love to shop as does my daughter !!

And also got obstructed view balcony room , kinda second guessing myself on that one. Maybe should have just got regular balcony with full view ?! Guess it be better then no view at all...

when in ports, you can haggle most sellers...offer them a price and they might take it right away...sometimes they dont...walk away and then come back and try it again...they will usually sell it to you....say if something is $35, offer 30...have fun!!! i have 1 week to go to my cruise on the pride...will be my 2nd cruise on her...last time was in 2003

first 2 life boats are taller so hope you have a room farther back. If at Freeport walk around the shops and see who has the cheapest of what you want.Haggle. Keep your slot wins to less the $1200 so you dont have to do the IRS form:D

Oh, I bet there is. They are still required to adhere to many US laws, otherwise I'm sure the drinking age would be 18!

Welcome to Cruise Critic! And happy sails! We've sailed on Carnival Pride 5 times so far and will miss her when she is relocated to Tampa.

Check out the "All Things Pride" thread for lots of Pride-specific tips and info.:)

Which itinerary are you doing? If visiting Nassau, the Straw Market is a fun place to good-naturedly negotiate prices. I haven't met a lady there yet who wasn't willing to budge at least a little on any price.;)

As for the Obstructed Balcony, it depends on which cabin you are in. Some are more obstructed than others.

We had initially booked an obstructed view for our Pride cruise in two weeks. However, we kept watching the prices - and we eventually were able to move into a regular balcony and even up one deck - and we ended up paying LESS than our original obstructed views. Keep an eye on the prices and maybe you'll get lucky too.

Thanks for all the replies love to know what i'm going be doing. That's another question with prices lowering , how does that work? I booked through carnival so will I get notified of price drop or do I call the guy who booked me and ask him ?

If I win enough to where I need to fill out paperwork ill be happy to do so. lol

One way of checking for price drops is with the FareViewer:

http://www.carnival.com/BookingEngine/FareViewer/#

Prices can change several times a day, so it's a good idea to check often.;)

ETA: Somehow I lost the first part of my post. It did read something like: You have to spot the price drops. Carnival won't inform you of them. If you spot one, take a screenshot and call your PVP (the guy who booked you) and he can get you the new rate if you qualify for it.

On the slots, the odds are against you! I've heard they aren't as good as casinos on land. But I love to play slots, don't expect to win anything, so if I win anything at all I'm happy! Hope you enjoy your cruise!

Pride is a great ship! Easy to navigate. Don't try to do everything. Port talks will also be on TV. Mostly a sales pitch for the presenter to get commissions. They do throw stuff to the audience toward the end--sit near the front.

Don't bother with the art auction. Rip off and champagne is headache inducing.

Trivia is fun. Games by the pool, especially if this is your first cruise, are fun to watch.

Drinks when you board are NOT free!

Whatever you carryon you, you'll lug with you until cabins open unless you pay for FTTF for early access.

Steakhouse is great. First night menu in MDR is not so good except for creme brulee for dessert so that's a good night to go. You can't wear shorts so carry on something to wear if you don't gett luggage soon enough.

Don't respond to the first call for muster. You'll end up squished against the wall if they do it outside. Wait a bit and try to get more in the front.

Room service menu is in the bunch of papers when you first get to your cabin. Looks like an ad, don't throw it out! Shrimp salad is really good. I ask for the roll on the side. Salads are good too. If you want salt and pepper be sure to specify or you won't get any. Tip the person who delivers. If you want, save the tray from room service and use it on Lido if they aren't using them any longer.

Get a lanyard for your sign and sail card. I take a hole punch and as soon as I get my card I punch the hole and put it on and never lose it. Don't make the hole on the end which goes in the door or on the magnetic strip.

Some entrees are also served as appetizers. You can also get more than one entree if you'd like.

There is a big hot tub in the spa which is usually unoccupied. Very nice!

Have a blast!:D

I can't tell you anything about the slots since I've never stepped inside the casino, but I can tell you about obstructed balconies. We booked a block of them in January for our wedding (5173, 5175, 5177, and 5179) and we had no problems. The view was fine, especially since we cruised in winter and using the balcony was questionable. The first three as someone mentioned are tall, so we booked the ones midship. If you're lucky, you can get a view between two of the lifeboats. We'd book them again.

Here are some pictures from our balconies.

Slots on Pride are tighter than any you'd find in Atlantic City, or any casino in the US. There are no penny machines which take less than 30 credits per spin. So with bad payback, money evaporates. Now of course, anyone can be lucky, but on average I'd bet slot paybacks are no better than about 80%. Atlantic City is in the range of 88-90% and Vegas can be better yet. So if you are playing the minimum 30 cents, 600 pulls an hour, it will cost you on average $36 an hour to play the machine. Imagine what happens at full coin in.

And video poker also has awful paytables compared to US casinos.
