deziner73 Posted August 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Ok all. I am going on my first cruise in October....7 night on Carnival. I know I need to get a hat, but I have no idea what. I am 40 years old and have SUPER thick medium length hair. I hate baseball caps and visors....they make my hair stick out on the sides and I look like a clown. Because I have super thick hair, it's hard to find a hat that will fit properly and not fly off my head. Any suggestions???
Rare Scrapnana Posted August 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2013 I purchased one of these for my next cruise. You can roll it up to put in your luggage and hand wash it if necessary. I normally hate hats (or anything else that goes around my head), but I wore this for a few hours after I bought it at a street fair and almost forgot I had it on. deziner73 Posted August 26, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted August 26, 2013 I really like the seagrass hats....those are super cute! Anybody like the scala hats? I thought they were cute too, but I am concerned they might not stay on my head with all my hair!

jagsfan Posted August 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Get a hat you can tie on. If you wear a hat at sea on an open deck or balcony you might see it fly.
magandab Posted August 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2013 I like a wider brim than that. Where are you going on your cruise? I like the Coolibar because of the ponytail hole in the back.
deziner73 Posted August 26, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted August 26, 2013 I'm going to the Southern Caribbean...I don't care about a ponytail holder since my hair isn't long enough for that. :-)
semichigan Posted August 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2013 I purchased one of these for my next cruise. You can roll it up to put in your luggage and hand wash it if necessary. I normally hate hats (or anything else that goes around my head), but I wore this for a few hours after I bought it at a street fair and almost forgot I had it on. I have this! I also got it at a street fair and love it. It's been on 4 cruises with me. The adjustable tie is perfect too, if it gets windy I just tighten it a bit and it has never blown off. I have the 14" one where the brim turns up around the edges. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Arusha Posted August 26, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Travelsmith's "Big Brim Packable Panama Hat" is available in several hat sizes, up to XL, perfect if you have a lot of hair. I bought it in Large. http://www.travelsmith.com/women/accessories/hats/ I also bought a Tilley hat, very similar to this style, from Travelsmith a couple of years ago: It also comes in sizes up to XL and is available at http://www.villagehatshop.com/tilley_th8_natural_black.html
deziner73 Posted August 26, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Thank you all! I think I'm going with the seagrass hat.
magandab Posted August 26, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Thank you all! I think I'm going with the seagrass hat. Good choice! If you "need" two, or have a friend who also wants one, note that if you buy two, shipping is free. In my view of the world spending $29 to save $7 makes perfect sense! LOL
