mvon Posted September 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2013 Going on cruise out of Galveston in October! We will be flying in day if cruise and using carnival transfer to get to port. Is there any stores close to port where we can buy some water and cokes?
sailor_jimc Posted September 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2013 Not truly.... If the transfer drops you off at the ship and you check your bags you would have to walk almost all the way across to the Gulf side of the island. There is a Valero Corner market at 628 Broadway St, Galveston, TX ... (see google maps..) It would be almost 2 miles walking. There is a Citgo station about .8 miles from the port but I am not sure if it sells soda. (Maybe it does. Most of the true grocery stores are on the other side of the island from the terminal. You would need a taxi or be willing to put in a lot of walking time. You may be best off buying your soda at the airport before you get on the shuttle? DobberDog Posted September 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2013 You could buy some sodas and water at one of the stores on the strand however you will pay a premium and the drinks will likely be cold and not bundled together in a case pack. The strand is a block from the cruise terminal. There are several stores on the strand that sell bottled water, cokes, and juices. They are usually open by 10 -1030 am. But as sailor_jimc stated, there are no real c-stores or or gas stations near the cruise terminal.
CoconutJD Posted September 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2013 The walmart is 5-6 miles from the cruise terminal, I imagine you can take a cab, not sure of the cost involved.
okgirl Posted September 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2013 A cab down to the gas station beside the Howard Johnson's on Harborside plus back to the pier is going to cost about $20. It sell's cases of water/soda even bottles of wine and other convenience store type stuff.
ssb Posted September 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2013 There is cvs pharmacy at 25th and broadway About 8 or so blocks directly up 25th from ships
Galveston Cruiser Posted September 4, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Grab a cab at the pier and go to Arlans grocery store at 5th and Market (Ave D). Ship is at 25th and Harborside (Ave A). Should be less than $20 round trip for taxi with it waiting for you. CVS at 25th and Broadway is 10 blocks each way - long blocks. Forget the convenience stores - too expensive and not much selection. Nothing is very far on the island - not 6- 8 miles anyway. The island, at its widest is only 2 miles.
