Swimming With Sting Rays

Hi All!

 

We are looking to go on a cruise off the East Coast next summer (out of Florida) but we were wondering if anyone knows of any other ports besides Grand Cayman where we can swim with Stingrays. Half the group that we are going with went on a cruise last October to Jamaica and GrandCayman and they don't want to go back to the same ports but the other half wants to swim with Sting Rays! HELP!!!! :) Thanks! :)

we did a swim with the turtles outing in Barbados and had a ray with us in the water. But it didnt get too close.

 

Got a few cool photos but we were mostly there for the turtles

Grand Turk, has 2 excursions

 

1- we did gibbs cay and sting ray encounter, it was amazing and gibbs cay is beautiful

2-Reef and Rays excursions

 

Both are avaliable through the ship and are not too expensive.

If you wanna swim with stingrays the only place to go is Grand Cayman....no where else even compares. The stingray encounter in Half Moon Cay was a joke and a waste of time and money

Silly question, but is there a CHANCE that they can sting you, during these excursions? After that guy in Australia died, it freaked me out and I often wondered why people would PAY to swim with them and chance being stung.:o:o

He was stung by a different type of sting ray.

 

The ones at Grand Cayman are tame. They are like Pavlovian dogs. They hear the boat engines and know it's time to eat.

 

Just don't run your hands from the tail up when petting them.

Belize

 

We did the Shark/Ray Alley Snorkeling and Caye Caulker Exploration with Coral Breeze Tours. Amazing snorkeling then we went to pet the sting rays and nurse sharks. I would highly recomend!!!

I like Grand Cayman best because because the rays are in their natural habitatat and not corralled into a penned up area. The rays are docile. It's my understanding that the Australian guy was too aggressive with the one that barbed him.
