Snorkeling at West Bay or Pirates Bay?

We are cruising to Roatan this December and I'm trying to do some research on the best places to snorkel. My husband and I are comfortable setting up our own non-ship excursion tours, I'm not sure how comfortable my in-laws are with it.

It looks like most folks are recommending either West Bay Beach or Maya Key. I'm leaning towards going with Victor Bodden/West Bay, but how is the snorkeling near Pirate's Bay/Las Palmas Beach Club? (This is where the ship wants to bring us).

While there are reefs rimming the entire island..... West Bay Beach is the place to snorkel :) in my opinion. Been back for 2 one week land trips after our first cruise visit and have dove (we are divers) in many locations. We snorkel too and have snorkeled all over the location.

check out the aerial picture of the resort showing the reef right off the beach. Click on the picture and it will enlarge - That is just a small part of it.

Roatan is amazing - have fun !
